Barking Dog Studios was founded in May of 1998 by former employees of Radical Entertainment. Barking Dog was brought on by Sierra to develop Homeworld: Cataclysm, a stand-alone expansion to Homeworld (developed by Relic). Valve was next to tap Barking Dog, to work on beta 5 of Counter-Strike.
In August 2002 they were acquired by Rockstar Games and became known as Rockstar Vancouver.
