Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 is a 1993 platform game developed and published by Capcom for the NES. It was released in Japan in December 1993, in North America in January 1994 and in Europe in September 1994. The game is based on the Disney cartoon Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and it's a sequel to the 1990 game Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. It was one of the last games developed for the NES. The game was included in The Disney Afternoon Collection compilation for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One released in April 2017.

Story[edit]

Fatcat escapes from prison at night. The next morning, Chip and Dale get a tip about a bomb that has been placed in a restaurant downtown. The two rangers go there to look for the bomb, but they meet Water Rabbit who informs them that the bomb was just a diversion: Fatcat's real goal was to steal the Pharaoh's Urn. After defeating Water Rabbit, Chip and Dale escape through the sewers and join Fatcat at the docks. However, the cat has set a trap for them and locks them in a huge refrigerator. The two manage to escape again and enter a building haunted by ghosts coming from the urn, which Fatcat has meanwhile opened. Chip and Dale defeat the ghosts and manage to retrieve the Pharaoh’s Urn. The two rangers must then search for three keys hidden in three different parts of an amusement park, in order to gain access to Fatcat's lair and finally reach their enemy.

Gameplay[edit]

The game is structured in nine consecutive levels. Unlike the predecessor, here it is not possible to choose which level to face: once a level is passed, the player is led directly to the next one (except for a section in an amusement park, where you can choose in what order to face the three areas).Between one level and another there are interludes that explain the development of the plot and it is possible to participate in a mini-game to get extra lives. Within the levels, characters can run, jump, crouch and collect crates and other objects to throw at enemies to defeat them. The player can choose whether to control Chip or Dale at the start of the game, but the moves available are the same. It is possible to play both alone and in pairs, in a combined action. The game received mixed reviews. Good graphics and sound effects were appreciated, but it was criticized for being too short and easy, only suitable for younger players.
