Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers 2 is structured in 9 consecutive levels. The goal, in each level, is to get to the end of it. At the end of each level (except for the giant refrigerator) you will have to defeat a boss. As you move through the levels, you will have to overcome gaps and defeat the enemies you encounter along the way. The basic strategy for killing enemies is to collect the crates scattered around the levels and throw them at them. Alternatively, you can hide inside these crates: if an enemy touches the crate you are hiding inside, it will die and you will not take any damage. Or, you can also just avoid the enemies. In this game there is no score and by defeating an enemy you will have no advantage other than its death. The screen, within the levels, only moves forward. Once an area has disappeared from the screen, you will never be able to return to it. Your life energy is represented by the red hearts shown at the top left of the screen. Whenever you are hit by an enemy or fall on dangerous ground, you will lose a heart. If you run out of hearts of energy or fall into a gap, you will lose a life. Losing all your lives, it's game over. You will still have the option to continue the game by selecting the "continue" option. You can do this up to 3 times.

Items[edit | edit source]

Along the levels you can then collect many useful items:

  • Wooden chest: You can grab it and throw it at enemies, or hide inside it.
  • Metal chest: Like the previous one, but can be used multiple times. You can also use these crates to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
  • Tennis ball: You can throw it and climb on it to overcome dangerous ground (there is only one in the game).
  • Acorns: Collecting an acorn will restore a heart of energy.
  • Stars: Collect them to get an extra life.
  • Ranger Plaques: If you collect enough, you will get a Ranger Badge at the end of the level
  • Ranger Badge: The more Ranger Badges you have, the more hearts of energy you can get. You can only get them at the end of a level if you have collected enough Ranger Plaques.
