In Chuckie Egg, the player controls Hen-House Harry, who can move, climb ladders, and jump to reach the scattered eggs. He will need to avoid the ducklings that move around each level.

There are eight levels in the game. Completing the eighth level will bring back the first level with the ducklings replaced by the freed mother duck. Reaching level 17 causes the ducklings to return, level 25 increases the number of ducklings, and level 33 increases the speed of the ducklings. Further progression simply repeats the stages 33-40.

There are five lives, and an extra life is awarded every 10000 points. In general, you should be receiving an extra life practically every level once mother duck is released - there's no limit to extra lives, although only six are displayed.

Level 1[edit]

This is a good level to get started and learn how jumping works. Otherwise, there's no special tactic needed.

In all stages, you will appear at the exact same location.

Level 2[edit]

Some platforms may have the duck on the right a little reluctant to leave his area for the first portion of the stage. If so, just wait until later to get the nearby egg.

Level 3[edit]

This introduces the lift, which has two complications:

  • You need to jump onto the lift when it's just about to wrap across the top of the screen. Missing the jump causes you to lose a life.
  • You need to exit the lift before it tries pushing you off-screen.

Save the bottom-right corner for last.

Level 4[edit]

To reach the top-left egg, the most reliable jump from the second step from the bottom of the intermediate stairs.

The duckling in the top-center may be a little reluctant to leave. If so, just use the lift to jump across.

Level 5[edit]

The broken ladder actually works to your advantage. You can jump from the lower one to the upper one.

Level 6[edit]

The mid-air eggs in the upper-left are the hardest to reach. The one above the ladder can be taken by a well-positioned jump, with most platforms requiring you to be on the right of that platform.

The other one can be grabbed by a risky long-range jump (which needs to be timed to land on the lift) or by dropping down.

Level 7[edit]

This is one of the most difficult stages, especially with reluctant ducklings (and later paired with mother duck). When the duckling descends, you're supposed to be able to jump to the bottom-left ladder, and when it ascents, you could tail it to reach the ladders above.

There's three known differences on this stage based on version:

  • The Commodore 64 version makes the jump at the bottom-left corner difficult, rebounding the player back if the positioning is off.
  • The Sinclair Zx Spectrum can jump onto the wall right of the starting area.
  • The CPC version makes it harder to grab the upper ladders.

The eggs on the upper-right platform are hard to reach as well, requiring you to grab two of them when the ducklings decide to give you enough room.

Level 8[edit]

All eggs on this stage require you to perform a precise jump. It's easiest if you rebound yourself off the side of the floor.

In the CPC version, you can simply drop down to collect the egg rather than mastering precise jumps.
