Wintertide Miracles has the same set of controls as its prequel, with the most important being Cross button to progress through text and Triangle button to open the menu during gameplay. Here you can save your game, alter the settings (such as text speed and volume), or exit to the title screen (after which glossary and CG collection is saved, though progress outside of that must be saved manually).

As long as you exit to the title screen after obtaining glossary entries or CGs, there isn't much use for the skip ( Square button ) function in this game. If you wish to see the consequences of alternate choices, you can scroll back to that choice via the log (accessed with Neutral lstick ), then press Square button to rewind the game.

Cardia[edit]

Though Wintertide Miracles often takes advantage of a narrative told through alternate perspectives (most commonly those of the love interests and the main characters of the Cantarella side story), the primary perspective remains Cardia's. As the heroine of the previous entries in the series, Guardian of Rebirth and Future Blessings, Cardia has gone through a great deal of development since then. Her set of skills depends on the route; for example, if her love interest is Van Helsing, her focus is on combat, and if it's Sholmès, she acts as an assistant detective.

As she is a representation of the player, Cardia's name can be changed before the game begins (with a limit of 6 characters). However, if left as the default, other characters will pronounce her name throughout the story, whereas they say nothing otherwise.
