Gibson and Broady have 120 seconds (2:00) to clear every round of this game, just like Albatross in the new version of Namco's Rolling Thunder (1986).

Welcome to the game. Once Gibson and/or Broady have appeared on the screen with fifty shots in their pistols, they will have to start walking to the right as eight Jail-Breakers (seven having a knife and one having a pistol) come walking towards them; once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them the fifth one will leave a bag of illegal drugs behind. Once you have collected it for a random amount of extra points, you will have to jump over a stack of two crates as a ninth Jail-Breaker (again having a knife) comes walking towards you - and once you've fired a shot at him to kill him he will leave another bag of illegal drugs behind. Once you've collected it, you will have to jump onto a third crate, as you come to a tenth Jail-Breaker (again, having a pistol); once you've fired a shot at him to kill him, he will leave a third bag of illegal drugs behind. Once you have collected it, you will have fire a shot at a barrel on the first step of a two-step platform made of five logs to have it bowl over an eleventh Jail-Breaker (having a machine gun) - and once you have done so, he shall leave a machine gun behind. You shall have to jump onto a stack of two more crates, then drop down onto the first step of the platform, and collect the machine gun for forty shots of it; once you have done so you will have to drop down to the second step of the platform and the ground in turn.

Two more Jail-Breakers (once again, having a knife) will then come walking towards you; once you have fired a shot at both of them to kill them they will leave two more bags of illegal drugs behind. Once you've collected them you will come to a four-step platform made up of six more crates with two more Jail-Breakers (one having a knife and one having a pistol) on its first two steps - and once you have jumped up and fired off a shot at both of these to kill them, you will have to jump up to its first and second steps in turn, then drop down to each of its next two steps and the ground in turn as four more Jail-Breakers (two having a pistol and two having a knife) come walking towards you. Once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, the eighteenth one will leave a sixth bag of illegal drugs behind; once you have collected it, you will come to another five-step platform made up of ten more crates with four more Jail-Breakers (three having a pistol and one having a machine gun) on its first, second, third, and fifth steps. Once you've jumped up and fired a shot at all of them to kill them, the twentieth, twenty-second, and twenty-third ones will leave a seventh bag of illegal drugs, another machine gun, and an energy drink behind - and once you have jumped up onto each of the platform's steps and collected them all in turn (but the second machine gun will only return your ammunition to 40), you will have to drop down to the ground as you come to a twenty-second crate with two more Jail-Breakers (having a pistol) on it. Once you have fired a shot at both of these to kill them, you shall have to jump over that crate, as four more Jail-Breakers (three having a pistol and one having a machine gun) come walking towards you; once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them the twenty-ninth one will leave a third machine gun behind. Once you've collected it you shall come to a three-step platform made up of three more crates with four more Jail-Breakers (three having a pistol and one having a machine gun) behind it - and once you've fired a shot at each of them to kill them, the thirtieth and thirty-second ones will leave two more bags of illegal drugs behind (but it is not worth risking your life for them due to the round's boss, Joe (Condemner Criminal)).

Joe attacks by firing shots at Gibson and Broady from his machine gun (which they have to crouch down to avoid); an infinite amount of additional Jail-Breakers will also walk into view from the right side of the screen on that hanging metal platform above him and drop down onto the second step of the three-step crate platform during this fight so you will also have to fire a shot at each of them to kill them, and if one of them leaves a pistol behind when you are running low on machine gun ammunition, you will have to collect it for forty shots of it. Once you have fired enough shots at Joe to kill him, any additional Jail-Breakers on screen shall drop their weapons and put up their hands - and you'll now receive 50 bonus points for every second you have remaining. The screen will then cut to a shot of the "Daily Taito International" newspaper with the headline "CATCH HOLD OF PRISON BREAKERS!", and the game will proceed to the second round (which focuses on bank robbery, and is also divided into four areas, each with its own separate timer).
