Crime City start screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet of Taito Corporation's 1989 run and gun arcade game Crime City, it will proceed to the start screen shown above, on which the following texts appear as Gibson and Broady receive a phone call (presumably from Case Special Investigation Chief Aves):

YAH. IT'S ME. TONY
YAH. THIS IS RAYMOND

WHAT?! PRISON BREAKERS?
ON MY DAY-OFF?
PRISON BREAKERS OCCUPIED A PORT?

SHUCKS!
WELL, LET'S GO FOR A KILL TIME.

Once you have pressed either Start Button to begin the game as Gibson (Player 1) or Broady (Player 2), the game shall proceed to its first round, which focuses on the unlawful activity of prison breaking; the second round also focuses on bank robbery, while the third one focuses on arms smuggling, and the remaining three all focus on kidnapping (misspelled by the game as "KIDNAPING"). Also, if you are using MAME to play the game, you can activate a "round select" feature by starting it while holding F2 (when the text "SERVICE SWITCH ERROR" appears, you shall have to press 1 thrice, then 9, and 1 for a fourth time - and the text "SELECT BY DOWN SW" will then appear, so you can select which round you want to start on with the up and down arrow keys, then press either 1 or 2 to confirm your choice). The second round layout is also determined by your life count and energy.
