During the game you will be able to collect and store 4 different items, each with its own function: stones, ladders, dynamites and diamonds. Collected items are shown at the bottom right of the screen. For each category, the number of items in your possession is in the small box alongside. If this number is greater than 9, a “+” will appear in the box. If you then have a particularly large amount of that item, the "+" will be replaced by a tick. To choose which item to use, you need to select it from the item menu by pressing the SELECT button and then pressing the B button.
SHOWEL AND STONES
Your inseparable shovel is the most precious ally you will have during your mission. In addition to digging, you can use it to attack enemies that are close to you. You can never drop it. During the adventure you can also find piles of stones. Each pile contains 9 stones. With these, you'll be able to attack enemies from a distance, avoiding damage from hand-to-hand combat. Occasionally you will find these stones directly on the ground, but most of the time you will have to hit the ceiling of the cave with the shovel to make them fall to the ground. So remember to regularly hit the stone vaults above you whenever you are in a low passage, where you can reach the ceiling with the shovel, there are many hidden items that you can only get this way.
LADDERS
You can use these ladders to make your descents safer. To place a ladder, go to the edge of a cliff, select it from the menu and press button B. You can only place the ladders from top to bottom, although once positioned you can also use them to climb. You can also connect a second ladder to the first, throwing another when you are on the lower edge. Since falling from an excessive height you will hurt yourself, it is well understood how useful these ladders are; however, as in some places they are essential to proceed, it is best to use them sparingly.
DYNAMITE
Dynamite is extremely useful for clearing your way and causing massive damage to the toughest enemies. Collect it whenever you can and use it sparingly, as at some points in the game it is essential to proceed. With dynamite you can in fact destroy certain thin walls and some small pillars that block your way. To place a stick of dynamite near the wall to be knocked down or the enemy to hit, select it from the menu and press the B button. After placing it, however, quickly move away or kick the sticks to move them. After a few moments the dynamite will explode and if you are still nearby you will be hit by the explosion, losing a lot of vital energy.
DIAMONDS
Diamonds are the most precious items in the game, collect as much as you can. Thanks to them, you can in fact buy large quantities of stones, dynamite and ladders at the exchange points (see the appropriate section). Diamonds can also distract certain enemies, such as dinosaurs.
POWER-UP MUSHROOMS
These items cannot be stored. You will never find them on the floor, but you will have to hit the walls above you with the shovel to make them fall. To use them, you will have to hit them with a kick and then quickly take the bubble of energy that will be released from them. After taking it you will turn pink and for a few seconds you will be very strong and invulnerable. You can destroy walls and pillars with the shovel and move the pink stones with a kick. You will kill weaker enemies with simple contact and can take out the dinosaurs with a single shot. You can also fall into deeper cliffs without taking any damage. So take advantage of these moments of invincibility well. Mushrooms will also almost completely restore your life energy.
EXCHANGE POINTS
During the game you will encounter some trading points, where you can buy a certain number of stones, ladders or dynamite in exchange for a diamond. These trading points are easily recognizable, as they resemble an ancient settlement. To find the entrance, you will have to reach the glittering window. Once reached, a room with items for sale will open in front of you and the diamond icon on the items menu will start flashing. Select the diamond by pressing the SELECT button and then press the B button to purchase the items. The right wall of the room is always a teleporter, which will help you get out of the settlement. And if you want to buy more items, just go back.
