Supersonic Warriors has a similar fighting style to Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden, Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden, and Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2, among others. Notably, it works with the graphic capabilities of the GBA to bring a DBZ game similar to the SNES/Genesis era games. The character storylines span throughout the sagas of the Dragon Ball Z anime and manga series, starting from Goku up to the fused Trunks and Goten, Gotenks.

An in-game optional tutorial comes with the game along with a free-play battle mode, where you're able to choose your opponents along with what type of strength you want your character to have. (For example, make Goku Super Saiyan 3 Goku, and he'll be stronger, but take up more room from teammates. This means that if you also have Gohan on your team, he can be no higher than a level 2 Saiyan, and so on.)

You can gain ki in battle, and the more ki you have, the stronger your attacks will be. 100 is the highest possible level of ki. The stronger your attacks, the more ki you lose. Attacks vary depending on characters. Krillin can pull off an easy Spirit Bomb, while Goku and Gohan can damage their opponents easier with a powerful Kamehameha.

Many other characters from the Dragon Ball Z series make cameo appearances as well.
