Scroll Fireball Fireball Special
Dragon Buster Scroll.png Dragon Buster Fireball.png Dragon Buster Fireball Special.png
A Scroll is a common reward for defeating a room guardian. Most of the time, the scroll contains a Fireball spell, but on occasion, it might contain the powerful Fireball Special spell instead. The Fireball can be fired to the left or the right, and will continue traveling until it hits a wall, blasting any enemies it hits along the way. It can destroy most common enemies. The Fireball Special is released from Clovis' location, and spirals outward in expanding circles. As fireballs hit enemies, new fireballs are formed to take the place of those which are lost.
Potion Poison Mushroom
Dragon Buster Potion.png Dragon Buster Poison.png Dragon Buster Mushroom.png
Some room guardians leave a Potion behind when defeated. Potions can restore 30 of Clovis' vitality points, although on occasion, they will restore up to 60! Other room guardians will leave behind a red vial of Poison. Do not drink this harmful brew, or it will remove 30 vitality points of Clovis' health. Mushrooms are a rare find for beating a room guardian. For every Mushroom that Clovis collects, his vitality meter will extend by 16 points, up to a maximum of 256 points.
Shield Super Sword Jewel

The Shield is a handy item that can prevent Clovis from taking damage from a Wizard's flying swords, or a Wizard's and Bishop's fireball attacks. However, Clovis cannot carry the Shield and the Crown at the same time. The Super Sword doubles the strength of Clovis' attack. This is especially useful against room guardians and the dragon. However, Clovis cannot carry the Super Sword and the Scepter at the same time. A more common reward for defeating a room guardian, the Jewel merely awards the player 3,000 points.
Crown Scepter Crown & Scepter set

The Crown is one of the princess' possessions. Clovis must carry this or the Scepter in order to rescue Celia in stages 3, 5, 8, and 12. Clovis cannot carry the Shield while in possession of the Crown. The Scepter is one of the princess' possessions. Clovis must carry this or the Crown in order to rescue Celia in stages 3, 5, 8, and 12. Clovis cannot wield the Super Sword while in possession of the Scepter. If Clovis possesses both the Crown and the Scepter when he rescues Celia, Celia's outfit will transform from a dress to a miniskirt, then to a bikini, and finally to a bunny outfit, and she will give Clovis a kiss.

Famicom/MSX Items[edit]

The Famicom version has a special glitch that, by collecting the same item three times in a row (even in different dungeons), the third pickup will add 10 of that item to the inventory. The counter is reset after each activation of the glitch. Gaining more chalices in this method is commonly used in speed runs.

Automatic items[edit]

Automatic items are items which go into effect the moment you collect them.

For every Mushroom that Clovis collects, his vitality meter will extend by 16 points, up to a maximum of 256 points. (Note that Clovis' vitality meter also extends for reaching certain levels of experience.)
Blue Jewel Red Jewel Super Sword

You may receive a jewel for defeating a room guardian. If you find a blue jewel, collect it for 50 extra experience points. On rare occasions, the jewel you find might be red. Collect this red jewel for an additional 100 experience points. The Super Sword doubles the strength of Clovis' attack. This is especially useful against room guardians and the dragon. Be on the lookout for the Thief enemy, which can rob Clovis of the Super Sword if he bumps into Clovis. Collect three Super Swords will change them into a more powerful form, able to destroy Golems in a single hit.

Magic items[edit]

Magic items are items which you collect and use by pressing Down dpad+A button. You must set the item you wish to use by pausing the game and cycling through the available items.

Scroll Rod Lamp

The Scroll contains a spell which, when used, launches a fireball in the direction that Clovis is facing. When the fireball hits an enemy, it disappears. The Rod launches a lightning bolt in Clovis' current direction. Unlike the fireball, the lightning bolt will continue to fly through enemies that it hits. When used, the Lamp causes pillars of flame to launch from the ground, one after another in the direction that Clovis is facing.
Amulet Ring Crown

The Amulet will cast a spell on any enemy visible on the screen and turn them into stone, even room guardians. The Ring causes an earthquake to occur which will damage any enemy that happens to be standing on the ground. Flying enemies are immune from it's effects. Unlike the Ring, the Crown creates thunder in addition to an earthquake so that all enemies are affected, whether they are flying or walking.
Chalice

The Chalice is a special magical item that will immediately evacuate Clovis from whichever dungeon he is currently in when it is used.

Utility items[edit]

Utility items are items which you store and hang onto until the moment they come into use. This may occur on the map screen, or in a dungeon.

Key Crystal Medical Herb
Dragon Buster Famicom Key.png Dragon Buster Famicom Diamond.png Dragon Buster Famicom Herb.png
The Key is needed to open the locked gates which can occur on the map screen. Without the key, you will have to reverse your course and try a different path. The Crystal allows Clovis to return to a portion of a path that he previously visited, by creating a rainbow that allows him to cross over a cleared location. Notice that it cannot choose the path to return, if the location has more than two paths connected to. The Medical Herb is an incredibly handy item and the closest thing in the game to an extra life. If Clovis possesses one when his health reaches 0, he will automatically be restored to 128 vitality points.
Axe Shield Compass
Dragon Buster Famicom Axe.png Dragon Buster Famicom Shield.png Dragon Buster Famicom Compass.png
The Axe allows Clovis to chop down the woods which can occur on the map screen. Without the axe, you will have to reverse your course and try a different path. The Shield will reduce the amount of damage that Clovis takes when he is attacked by an enemy. After taking enough damage the effect of the Shield wears off. Beware of the Bishops' halberds, as they can shatter one Shield whenever hit, and ignore the damage reduction. The Compass continually points to the location of the exit of the dungeon which Clovis currently occupies. If there are multiple exits, it will only point to one of them. One is consumed per round.
Diary
Dragon Buster Famicom Book.png
By finding a Diary, you can continue your game from the beginning of last province that Clovis visited before he died.
