Races[edit]

New players to the game have their choice of four races, which, in addition to being male or female, provides 8 basic character models to choose from. These include humans, who are described as friendly and of ordinary capability; Shura, a beast-like race that can resemble both a cat and dragon, are described as aggressive and with great physical prowess; Sylph, spirit-like creatures with high knowledge and wisdom but out of touch with their emotions; and Sprites, who are small and childlike in appearance.[1]

Despite the lengthy descriptions and occupation proficiency given for each race on the official website, they do not significantly, if at all, affect the stats of the player. A Sprite, despite their small size, can be just as competent a Mercenary as a Shura of the same level. This is because the races originally had the implied effects (such as Shura being better at physical attributes and Sylph at mental), but this was phased out before the North American version of the game was released, making the differences mostly cosmetic.[2] It also affects certain dialog with NPCs and determines the village new characters start in.[3]

Professions[edit]

In the Dream of Mirror Online, the job system is similar to that of Final Fantasy XI.[4] every character starts with the occupation "Commoner" which has no special skills in battle, only skills for increasing efficiency at harvesting raw materials and using alchemy to create new equipment. After reaching level 10 as a commoner, the player can qualify for different jobs by completing appropriate quests, and each new job starts at level 10 with the base stats for that job, regardless of levels in previous jobs. A player may go to an NPC in towns to change to any job for which they are qualified, and levels, attributes, and skill points are recorded separately for each job.

The Blademaster job (formerly Swordsman) focuses on high attack power with low defense. Mercenaries have very high defense and can use heavy armor and a wide variety of weapons (they are the only class that can normally equip shields, when used with an axe). Fencers can add elemental properties to their attacks.

The Martial Artist has moderate defense and high attack and HP. Thieves have high dexterity and so can attack quickly and dodge many attacks, as well as possessing skills to steal items, gold, and recipes from monsters. The Hunter also has high attack speed and dodge rate and uses a bow to attack from a distance.

Wizards use powerful AOE attack spells that take time to cast, and spend scrolls to do so. Shamans do not have as powerful spells, but they can be cast more quickly and consume less MP. They are also stronger physically and cannot cast AOE spells until higher levels. Witch Doctors consume voodoo bugs to cause status effects and reduce the stats of their target.

Musicians can buff other classes but cannot move while playing songs. Dancers, similarly, cannot move while dancing but focus on offensive and status-inducing skills. Doctors can cast some buffs and have healing and resurrect skills and consume frogs to use some of their skills.

Some of the jobs are not yet implemented in all versions. The Witch Doctor class is not available in the Aeria Games version of the game.[5][6][7]

Flying[edit]

The flying system is one of the most distinguishing characteristics of DOMO. Players may launch into the sky using flying features. Crossing geographic barriers and performing free sky diving are just some of the feats that await players.

The Dream of Mirror Online flying system is based on the sword-flying myths in Chinese legends. Players can use all types of weapons, such as the sword, saber, rod, stick, and even the dancing fan to launch into the air. They are all potential flying equipment that players can ride on. Each different piece of flying equipment has its own features and specific speed. However, some weapons simply cannot fly, and others will only fly after achieving a specific level.

As they fly, players constantly accumulate flying experience. This will later enable them to ride higher-level flying equipment and improve their flying speeds. Besides helping players to achieve their free flying dreams, DOMO's flying systems offers a unique mount system. With various zones like islands and forests, through flying players can get to and through those locations with ease. [8]
