Included in the 1989 North American release of the game was a paper map detailing the general locations of important towns and landmarks that you must visit throughout the game. While villagers in towns make reference to many locations in the game, it's not always clear what or where they are talking about. As a result, this included map of the world can significantly cut down the amount of time it takes for you to search for something that you were told you need to look for.

In addition to the paper map, the use of Fairy magic can help you better understand the geography of the world that you are exploring, through the use of the in-game map spells. To the right is a composited image of all 16 of the sections of the world that you must navigate.

Unfortunately, the names of the key locations on the included paper map do not completely match the names which are used by the villagers in the game. Use the following table to translate between the names you are told in the game, and the names which are presented on the map.

Game flow[edit]

To win the game, you must complete the following missions:

  • Granville
    • Get the Compass in Granville
    • Visit the King
  • First sword
    • Go to Deirus to investigate rumors
    • Free the Spring of Sara
    • Have the sword inspected in Bell by a soldier
    • Go to Selle and find the sculpture
    • Take the Sword to Bell's Wizard
  • Second sword
    • Visit Sull to understand rumors
    • Find the Ring of Flight in the Dungeon of Doom
    • Search the Sky Cavern for the Ring of Sight
    • Enter the Hidden Chamber for the Sword of Faeries
    • Take the Sword of Faeries to Sull's Wizard
  • Third sword
    • Investigate Gran about the Sword of Fire
    • Find the Faeriespike in the forest maze
    • Visit the Fount of Fire with the Sword
    • Take the Sword to Gran's Wizard
  • Fourth sword
    • Go to Zandor to search for the Flower of Zandor
    • Enter the Darius Maze and search for the Flower
    • Seek the water south of Bell for the Underwater Chamber
    • Find the Book of Runes
    • Speak with the Warrior's Ghost
    • Recover the Warrior's Legendary Armor
    • Speak with the Dragon King
    • Take the Sword of Water to Deirus
  • Fifth sword
    • Hear the Faerie's Song at the Cape of Winds
    • Seek the Book of Seven Witches in the Zell Caverns
    • Speak with the Faeries
    • Rescue Taz from the North Tower
    • Take the Sword of Wind to Zandor's Wizard
  • Final quest
    • Use Faerie Magic to reach the Cloud Realm
    • Enter Tores' Sanctuary and recover Tores
    • Return to Granville
    • Rescue the King and Queen from Darces
