The rules of Mystara conflate race and profession in a single class.

Clerics[edit]

The most important attribute for clerics is Wisdom, that rules the success rate of clerical spells.

With reference to the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules, all the clerics are humans.

Magicians[edit]

The most important attribute for magic-users is Intelligence, that rules the success rate of magical spells. Equally important is the choice of starting spells: "Sleep" is extremely useful at the beginning of the game.

With reference to the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules:

  • Pure magic-users are humans; they are unable to use any armor and most weapons.
  • Elves are multi-class magic-users/fighters; they can use any weapon and armor, but they require double experience points to level up.

Fighters[edit]

This section lists all characters unable to cast spells.

For all types of fighters, the most important attribute is the sum of Strength, Dexterity and Constitution.

With reference to the Dungeons & Dragons rules:

  • Pure fighters are humans.
  • Pure thieves are humans; their armor is limited to the lighter types.
  • Dwarves and halflings are pure fighters.

The most powerful per class[edit]

The top of the class:

  • Chanda: a (human) cleric with Wisdom 18.
  • Larissa: an elf (mage/fighter) with Intelligence 18 and the "Sleep" spell.
  • Valos: a (human) magic-user with Intelligence 17 and the "Sleep" spell.
  • Mical: a halfling (fighter) with Strength 17, Dexterity 17 and Constitution 18.

Charisma-based[edit]

Charisma is supposed to rule the reactions of non-playable characters. Therefore, in order to try and experience two different games, you could try a party with top Charisma and one with minimal charisma.

Top charisma:

  • Chanda (18): a (human) cleric
  • Valos (17): a (human) magic-user
  • Claus (17): a dwarf (fighter)
  • Either one:
    • Arrion (17): a (human) thief
    • Trinter (16): a halfling (fighter)

Worst charisma:
