The east dungeon[edit]

Find the cave next to the inn.

After returning the ninth scroll to the queen in Castle Elysion, it's time to tackle the cave to the east which leads to the Sage's Island. It is the cave right next to Marine Inn along the east coast. When you step inside, the first floor will be visible, but all of the subsequent floors will be pitch black. To see your way through this dungeon, you will need to equip the Cat's Eye, which can be purchased at most inns, or perhaps collected when dropped by one of the two-headed dog creatures outside.

Use the Cat's Eye to see on other floors.

Stepping into the dungeon, it will look like a standard tunnel at first, but it will open up into a room with a ladder in the middle and passages branching off in three directions. There are actually two exits to find in this dungeon. Both lead to islands, and while only the larger island contains the sage you are searching for, the small island is worth visiting as well. The monsters that you encounter along the way include some enemies that you are familiar with, along with a new type of tall knight, and the first set of spell-casters that you've met so far. Another feature to watch out for are holes in the floor. If you possess and equip the rope, you will avoid falling through them. If you do fall through a hole, your health points will be reduced to one.

Naturally, the dungeons hides a number of chests, and you are encouraged to cast Inspect liberally, especially when you are contained within a small chamber, in order to discover as many chests as you can. Two of the chests in particular contain a powerful armor and shield, although they will be quickly made obsolete by the armor and shield hidden on either island. Another chest will hold your strongest race-specific weapon.

To the small island[edit]

Look for great armor on this island.

Reaching the small island is actually quite easy. From the central room, head south. Climb down the ladder, and make your way to the right. As you do, a hidden chest will appear, containing a Magic +5 potion. Climb down the next ladder, and you will see a pool which restores magic points. Below the pool is another hidden chest. This one will contain Plate Mail +2, which is great armor, but you're about to find the second best armor available. (If you happen to walk south from here and use the ladder, you will arrive in a small room that has another hidden chest. This one contains a Large +2 shield. Collect it if you like, and then return to the previous room via the ladder.) From here, head to the left, and into the tunnel that leads to a set of stairs. Take the stairs and you will arrive on the small island. This island contains no notable features, but it does hide one treasure chest just below the small set of hills in the middle. This chest contains the Plate Suit, which you should equip as quickly as possible. You can now sell that Plate Mail +2 you just found (as well as the armor you were previously wearing) for a good sum of money.

To the large island[edit]

To reach the large island, start again from the central room on the first floor, and head north. Take the ladder there to another room and head right. As you do, you should find a hidden chest with a Heal +5 potion. Continue right and climb down the next ladder. In the room that you arrive at, there is a hidden chest in the upper left corner containing Plate Mail armor. Take the passage to the left, and climb down the next ladder.

Don't miss the weapon in this hidden chest.

You will arrive in a big room with a passage off to the right. Ignore the passage and walk south. If you walk along the left wall, you're likely to find a chest with a Heal +5 potion in it. At the bottom of the room is another pool, but this one is poisonous, so avoid it. Instead, climb up the ladder and then walk south through the hallway. In the upper right corner by the lower ladder is a hidden chest containing a Magic +5 potion. Climb up the lower ladder, and you will arrive in a small room. A chest hidden in the lower left corner may contain a Speed Ring. Take the next ladder up, and be sure to cast Inspect in this room. The hidden chest that appears in the lower right corner contains the most powerful race-specific weapon for your character, so be sure to collect it. After you do, step on the teleportation tile above the chest.

A great shield is hidden here.

You will arrive in the southern portion of a large room. A hidden chest in the lower left corner will contain a Jet potion. Walk to the top of the room, and ignore the ladder that you find. Instead, walk through the passage to the right, which leads to a flight of stairs. Take the stairs, and you will arrive on the large island. There are three hidden chests here. To the right of the cave exit is a chest that usually contains one of the expensive, but powerless race-specific weapons. Just outside of Pete Inn in the center of the island is another hidden chest which contains a random item. It may provide you with the Faerie Sword, which is better than the Battle Sword, but not nearly as good as your best race-specific weapon. In the lower left corner of the island however, you will find a hidden chest that contains the Tower shield, the second best shield in the game.

Speak to the sage, then get the last scroll.

Visit Pete Inn, sell off all the items you no longer need, and pay the 100 gold to stay for the night (unless you've just recently leveled up.) Speaking of leveling up, it might be a good idea to fight monsters until you have reach the next level before exploring the cave to the right, as you will advance two levels in a row for free very shortly. When you are ready, enter the cave in the lower right corner of the island. You will arrive in a room that is laid out similarly to the cave in the Desert of Mystery. To start, take the lower hallway. You should notice a break in the wall. Investigate it, and you will arrive in a room occupied by a sage. This one will tell you more about the jewels of the sword, and the one is heald by a Black Knight, who may be nearby, but will only appear if you hold the Black Ticket. The Black Ticket is the item that you obtain from defeating a Black Knight after reaching level 15.

Fight the Black Knight boss to get the last jewel.

When you are done talking with her, examine the chest to find the tenth and final scroll. All that is left is to find the Black Knight. Make sure you equip the Black Ticket, and exit the sage's room. Walk around to the upper hallway. As long as the Black Ticket is equipped, the boss of the Black Knights should appear (he will be red/orange in color). Defeat the boss of the Black Knights in battle (watch your health) and you will receive the third jewel. You will also advance to the next level automatically. Use the jewel in your equipment to place the last jewel in the sword. Then, if you've collected all of the best armor and weapons that you can find, use the Fairy Wings to return to Castle Elysion.
