The primary goal of this level is to shut down three fusion generators. Each of these needs to be accessed first, and in the process you'll also need to deactivate several force fields to access control areas.

Outer areas[edit]

Near the level entrance are two rooms side by side. Take a look at the surveillance monitors: on one you can see three forcefields in a row blocking the level exit. Shutting down the fusion generators deactivates these. You'll see several patrol eyes roaming around. There are many in this level: be very careful around these, as their gibs are very hazardous and will cause a big health hit if you're too close when you shoot them or they touch you and detonate.

Through a window in the second room you'll see a power conduit. Destroying this deactivates the forcefield blocking the exit to these rooms, but a repair droid will restore it after several seconds. (You'll get a message: "Repairs complete. Forcefield 'renabled.'" Whoops! Not every bauble will get fixed at development time. But it was just a minor typo that slipped by here.) The repair droids aren't meant to be killed: they're pretty much indestructible and they'll just shoot these nasty missiles at you if you keep firing at them. Activate the panel of equipment inset into the wall: there's a secret compartment inside. Activate the back wall of the compartment to get to a second secret area that leads to the room with the power node, and some high-end ammo. The repair droid will ignore you if you don't shoot at it. Note the full-health concealed by the power conduit, if you need it later.

Shoot the power node, and leave while the forcefield is down. The corridor leads to a courtyard with a diamond-shaped pool of dirty water. The door leads into the main part of the complex, but a forcefield is in the way. Go to the side room and destroy the power conduit inside to deactivate the forcefield, then enter the complex. Through the second door, across the hall, there's a secret area behind the pillar against the wall.

Becoming oriented[edit]

The complex isn't massive but has a rather confusing layout, and you'll need your automap. From now on it'll be most practical to reference compass directions. Because the automap rotates, you'll need a reference to maintain your bearings. The courtyard with the diamond-shaped pool you just came from is at the south end of the complex. (This is the orientation of the level if you open it up with the level editor.) For now, explore everywhere you can and eliminate enemies. Two pathways will be blocked by forcefields, one on the southeast and the other to the northwest. You'll find a big storage room, beyond which to the southwest is a big upper courtyard where the level exit is. (Watch for patrol eyes! They're everywhere in this area and have a habit of sneaking up on you.) You'll come across a second sunken courtyard to the north. You'll find the Fusiongen 1 and 2 chambers: these are the tall elongated octagonal rooms with the big cores. Next to the doors outside you'll find placards on the wall denoting which is which. Fusiongen 1 is the one on the east side of the complex off the main corridor; 2 is to the northeast beyond the sunken courtyard; and 3 is to the northwest past the forcefield.

Forcefields and accessing the fusion generators[edit]

Now that most of the complex is cleared out, you can get to work on the primary mission. These can be done in whatever order you want, but are listed here in an order that lessens backtracking.

Southeast forcefield[edit]

Go to the storage room, and destroy the power conduit in the side room. This will drop the southeast forcefield. Back in the storage room, look for a darker section and misaligned texture on the larger wall that's at a 45-degree angle. There's a secret area in here with a Secret Level Access Keycard.

Northwest forcefield[edit]

Go to the sunken courtyard, and take the small passage to a room with another power conduit. Shoot this to drop the northwest forcefield. (Don't forget the Deep Radar Tracking in the cubbyhole up on the wall.)

Opening Fusiongen 2[edit]

Each Fusiongen core will have a door that needs to be opened. Go down the corridor past the sunken courtyard to the room at the end. Hit the switch to open the Fusiongen 2 core. You'll be ambushed when you do. After you fight off the HSD, jump onto the switch, then on top of the construct. The switch in the back reopens the exit.

A teleporter will have opened in the sunken courtyard. This goes back to the level entrance behind the transport tube, to that door you probably saw earlier.

Opening Fusiongen 1[edit]

Go to the room past the southeast forcefield, and hit the switch. You'll get ambushed here too. The switch inside where the LSDs were reopens the exit.

Opening Fusiongen 3[edit]

Go past where the northwest forcefield was, to the room at the end of the corridor. Hit the switch to open the Fusiongen 3 core. The ambush here is from behind and the nastiest of the three, so turn around immediately. Again, the switch where the enemies were opens the exit. (Look behind the big console for some items.)

There's a secret area inside Fusiongen 3. Go up the ramp around behind, to the brown platform, and walk through the middle of the core to the platform on the front side, where there's a Li'l Buddy and health. There's a hidden passage through the core here. Also there's an item next to the power conduit inside the door you opened earlier. (There's an item in the same place in Fusiongen 2 also.)

Shutting down the fusion generators[edit]

Before you begin the last objective, you might want to wander through the level and fill up on ammo and gather items you may have missed earlier, because you'll be in too much of a hurry later.

This last step can pose a significant challenge. Shut down the three fusion generators by destroying the power conduits inside the doors you opened earlier, which in turn deactivates the three forcefields blocking the exit, one per Fusiongen. The thing is, repair droids will go to work fixing the power conduits, and you'll have about a minute to get all three shut down, navigating a rather confusing layout in the process, AND get to the exit before any of the forcefields are restored. You'll most likely need several tries before succeeding. You might find it easier to navigate by automap and use the normal view only when shooting the power conduits. Also you'll have a far easier time of it if you use "freelook" with the mouse. If you mess up and lose too much time, carry through with the sequence anyway; you'll get practice this way.

What works well is to start with Fusiongen 2, that way you only have to deal with that narrow walkway around the sunken courtyard once. Back in the main hall, go left and shut down Fusiongen 1 just around the corner. Turn right when you leave Fusiongen 1--it's easy to get mixed up here, and follow the corridor to Fusiongen 3. After shutting down and leaving Fusiongen 3, stay on the right-hand wall and you'll get to the storage room. From there, book it across the upper courtyard to the level exit. With practice it's doable with a lot of time to spare.

Secret Level Alert[edit]

This episode's secret level is accessed following this level. If you have collected three Secret Level Access Keycards thus far, you'll go to Ionic Decay (DBonus) next. Otherwise, you'll continue to Biogen Reclamation (D4).
