Food for the Beast[edit]

The boss monster you will battle depends on the path you chose early in the game. For a look at each monster's entrance watch the video.

Boss Pattern[edit]

Each monster basically follows this pattern:

Stage One[edit]

  • Attacks with projectiles

Stage Two[edit]

  • Summons zombies

Stage Three[edit]

  • Constant attacks from above

Whenever you get too close, the beast will attack you with quick, deadly attacks, so stay away for the first few stages.

Xel'lotath (Blue) Beast Strategy[edit]

Have the following spells ready (assign to quick keys):

  1. Damage Field (three or five point, green)
  2. Magickal Attack (three or five point, green)

Make sure you have your pistol fully loaded before entering the room.

For stage one, it sets up the 3 orbs, get as close to Xel'lotath as possible and shoot each orb, as soon as the 3rd orb has been shot do a 7 point Green Magickal Attack, this will take you to phase 2. If this somehow doesn't do the same again but with a 3 point Green Magickal Attack.

Stage two can be one of the most frustrating and difficult parts of the game if you don't know what to do. First off set up a Damage field near where the middle zombie spawns. As soon as you see the 3rd zombie on the right spawn, do a Magickal Attack, by the time you've finished casting this Xel'lotath will be flashing and will be hit by the move, you need to time it so the Magickal attack goes through each zombie before it attacks Xel'lotath (There's no way to avoid this).

Stage three is pretty simple, really. Simply make a lap around the opening while the beast attacks you. After the fifth or sixth attack, he will need to recharge his magic. Immediately after the last attack, use your three or five-point Magickal Attack spell to hit him. Doing this a few times will kill him off. Congratulations, you have just defeated arguably the most difficult boss of the game!

Xel'lotath (green) Beast Strategy[edit]

Have the following spells ready (assign to quick keys):

  1. Damage Field (three or five point, red)
  2. Magickal Attack (three or five point, red)

For stage one, simply run around the checkerboard floor area, about 25 feet from the beast (I line myself up with the second row of archways). Don't get too close to the beast or he will start raining down lightning attacks. Avoid the green projectile attack, by running from side to side. Note that after the beast attacks, he will be covered in a green electrical coating. This means he is vulnerable. Immediately after the beast attacks, cast a three point Magical Attack. He should recoil if you were successful in your attack. Run around to avoid the attacks and follow the same procedure. Hit him a few more times to reach stage two.

Stage two can be one of the most frustrating and difficult parts of the game. If you're having trouble, try this: Choose a side (left or right) and hang out near the second row of archways. As the beast summons zombies, perform a 3 or 5 Damage Area spell. This will shield you from the zombies and keep them from bothering you for a brief period of time. Note that a few seconds after the zombies are summoned, the beast turns green (signaling vulnerability). Try to cast a 3 or 5 point Magickal Attack spell so that the shockwaves hit the beast while it is green. Timing is crucial here and you may have to run around and finish zombies, replenish your magick or replenish your health if you get hit. Successfully hitting the beast with the Magickal Attack a few times will get you to stage three.
