There is a stalemate between Camp Forlorn Hope, and Nelson. In this side quest, you will help out Caesar's Legion, but will fail various other NCR quests. If you want to complete this quest, you should first finish that one.

Nelson is the most easily reached by going east from Novac.

Nelson[edit]

When you approach Nelson, one of the gate guards will approach, and demand that you meet with Dead Sea. He will mention the situation there, and one of the dialog options leads towards attacking Camp Forlorn Hope. He won't do it himself, as his orders is to hold the location rather than to attack.

The NCR camp is to the north, but taking that route leads into a minefield. However, there are a few dead NCR troopers where you can obtain a uniform, and thus use as a disguise.

Camp Forlorn Hope[edit]

When you are in the camp, you only need to kill four officers. Wearing an NCR uniform can make it easier to evade anyone that becomes hostile.

  • Doctor Richards is in his medical tent. During the day, he is in the medical tent, and it is otherwise vacant.
  • Quartermaster Mayes is in one of the supply tents during the day. He is by himself during that time, but some NCR soldiers may become alerted. If he is attacked, he can run to his supply shed.
  • Tech Sergeant Reyes is in the main command tent during the day, and there are other solders in the tent.
  • Major Polatli is also in the main command tent during the day.

Reward[edit]

Return to Dead Sea, and he will give you the Liberator. It is a unique machete, inflicting three times as much damage per second, along with increased bonus limb damage. You will also get 300 XP, and fame with Caesar's Legion.
