Fantasy Zone stage plaleaf.gif

Plaleaf is a lush green planet with plenty of fresh air. Although this stage will be swarming with enemies, you can rest assured that there will be relatively few bullets fired. Watch for the enemies to pulse with a light just before they fire at you. The shop will appear after two bases have been destroyed, and you have collected the $1000 coins they drop. Jet Engines and Twin Bombs are the recommended purchases, although Big Wings can be bought instead if you want to save a little money. If you're a beginner to the game, you might also think about picking up the Wide Beam, just to give yourself an edge. Expert player should be able to clear the stage easily with only the Twin Shot and Twin Bombs.

Occupants[edit]

Base[edit]

The bases in Plaleaf are the Dralinflores. They wobble up and down in the air, and the deposit Quili-Quili enemies from their lower hatch. As far as bases go, they are not particularly strong, and can be knocked out with just three bombs. They are scattered throughout the level at various heights ranging from the middle of the stage to the very top.

Enemies[edit]

Quili-Quili Clon

Quili-Quilies appear from the bottom of the Dralinflore bases. They travel straight for a little while before making a U-turn and retreating in the opposite direction. They do not drop coins.

These little ships travel in a pattern that is rather similar to the Quili-Quilies. If Opa-Opa starts to travel at a great rate of speed, a squadron of Clons will appear in formation.

Moocolon Sawsang

Moocolons travel straight across the screen. However, they tend to appear in columns, one above the other. Each one will drop a coin when defeated.

Fantasy Zone enemy sousan.gif

These scissor shaped enemies fly across the screen in a tight formation, bobbing up and down as they travel. Coins are only granted when the entire formation is destroyed. The more bases you've beaten, the longer the formations become.

Bottaco

Bottacos swoop in from the top and bottom of the screen and approach Opa-Opa on a diagonal. After they get close enough, they boomerang back to the side of the screen where they came from.

Boss[edit]

Fantasy Zone boss stamperon.gif

This woody poker-faced boss is known as Stumpalon. He moves up and down along the right side of the screen, in an attempt to line his mouth up with Opa-Opa. When he opens his mouth, pellets are strewn across the screen and spread out radially towards Opa-Opa. The amount of pellets he spits changes randomly. You will be able to dodge the pellets quite easily with the Jet Engine. You'll have a little more difficulty if you chose the Big Wings, but it's still possible if you move early enough. Your only opportunity to damage him is when he opens his mouth. You must fire into it while he spits pellets at you. You can even get a bomb or two in there for a lot of damage. His mouth changes color the more he is damaged. If you move too close to him, the pellets will bounce off the left side of the screen and bounce back towards you. Stay safely ahead of his pellets, and anticipate when his mouth will open, and you will defeat him in no time. Be ready to catch the windfall of coins when he shatters.
