Pyramids[edit]

Renamed: Pyramid of Moore (GBA)

At this point you can go north to Surgate castle, or further north to Karnak, but these towns have nothing new in them except updated gossip. Head west toward the Sand Tides; this time you must cross through a forest which is the last remnant of Moore Forest and there is a short cutscene where you pay your respects to Galuf at the Elder's Tree. When you enter the Sand Tides the sand is no longer moving. Continue west; if you keep going you eventually reach Moore Village, but there is nothing new there but updated gossip here as well.

Enter the pyramid in the middle of the desert. This time there are two stone statues in front of the door to the pyramid. Check the door to start a battle with them.

Description/Strategy

Preparation: Have at least two characters with the !White or !Red ability, not only for healing but for Scan. As usual, a Summoner with Golem will help keep damage down. Someone to cast Haste will be very handy as well. Avoid abilities which you cannot control such as !Earth. Try to have good group attacks; Titan works well, but don't discount physical attacks such as Kick

Tactics: First, since these monsters use physical attacks almost exclusively, cast Golem and or Protes. This battle would be easy if not for the fact that the monsters respawn each other if you don't get them both at the same time. One way to avoid this is to keep tabs on the HP of each one and only attack the one with higher HP. Use Scan (or Check) if you lose track. Another way is to bring one enemy down to nearly 0 HP, then fight the other one until it's gone, and finally finish off the first one. The best way is to use only group attacks, then when both are pretty low on HP, finish them off with a strong group attack such as Titan. Using !$Toss is usually enough to reduce both to low HP that can be taken out with another attack soon afterward. Occasionally, one of the Gargoyles will use Pep Up, which sacrifices its life to give the other one full health. Since the other one will almost immediately respawn the first one, they will effectively be both restored to full health. The only thing you can do about this is to try to defeat the one left before it cast respawn the other.

When the battle the over, one of the pages from the Sealed Book floats to the door and burns up, thus unlocking the door.

It is a good idea to exit to the desert temporarily at this point to save and heal.

Before starting with the interior, you should be aware that many of the treasure chests here have monsters inside, so do not open them unprepared. Fighting these battles will take their toll on you MP, so if you intend to get all the treasure then it is a good idea to exit and heal occasionally on the lower floors. Most of the monsters here are undead, so having a Bard with Requiem will be very handy.

Enter the pyramid and take the westernmost passage north. There are three buttons at the end which control an array of spikes on the floor. Press the buttons to arrange a safe path over the spikes; press the left and right buttons. If you step on the spikes you will take damage and get poisoned since a few Antidotes will fix it. Having a Geomancer in your party or the Antitrap ability allows the party to walk over the spikes unharmed.

Continue south through an arch, then east and let yourself be swept down a floor by the sandfall. Battle 4 of The Damned for the Ice Shield, then make your way north fighting the Aspis on the way. Go up the stairs to the east side of the first floor. Follow the passage east and south, then turn north and go past the sandfall to the 2nd Floor. Find your way through the hidden passages west, fighting more snakes, and go back down to the first floor. Open the sarcophagus to start a battle with a GrandMummy, with the Hex Ring as a reward. Go back as far as the sandfall and press the button to stop it. Since you are near the beginning again it is probably a good time to exit temporarily to save.

This time take the next to westernmost passage north to the 2nd Floor. Go south through a doorway to trigger a trap where the doors close and snakes are released. Press the buttons to open the doors and continue south to the 3rd Floor. When you approach the treasure here more snakes are released, and all the chests have monsters to fight. Continue east and up the stairway, timing your movements so you can get all the way up before the stairs turn into a slide and you land on the poison spikes below. This is not difficult, but remember where you are if you get a random battle mid-stairway.

The 4th floor is a large area with robots and a few snakes. Fight the mummies in the sarcophagus on the right to win a Thornlet. Go to the southwest corner, press the button there to lower the spikes, fight the snakes which are released, then follow the passage on the west edge for the Black Robe. Finally fight the mummies in the sarcophagus on the left to go on. There is a save point in the next room; from there continue to the 5th Floor.

You now start to encounter a creature called Zefa Zone in random battles. She does not attack directly but summons other monsters, then heals and buffs them. Defeat or disable her first, otherwise she will make it difficult to get rid of the enemy she calls into battle.

Start by going left along a winding passage. Fight the snakes that are released and get the treasure in a small room on the 6th Floor. Go back to the entrance of the 5th Floor and go through the open sarcophagus, then follow the passage south. There are secret passages connected to this but ignore them for the moment. Go up the stairs to the main part of the 6th Floor.

There are sandfalls here; start by sliding down the first one. You land in the northernmost of three small rooms on the east side of the 5th Floor. Get the treasure here, then follow the secret passage to the main part of the floor. The door here only opens from behind so the only way to reach the north room is by sliding down the sandfall. Use the Secret ability to follow another secret passage starting from the southeast corner of the main area. This leads to the middle and southern rooms, but only the middle room has treasure.

Retrace your steps to the 6th floor, this time press the button next to the sandfall and cross over. Go through the door in the northeast corner to a new area. Press the switch on the left to move the wall out of the way and get the treasure. The switch on the right pushes down a hole, where you slide down the sandfall again. Go back to the 6th floor, press the second and third buttons to stop the corresponding sand falls; the second and third sandfalls lead to 5th Floor again, but you will need to use them if you need to go back to the save point from an upper level. Go up the stairs in the southeast to the 7th Floor.

There are two side passages north here; the one on the right is a dead end, so explore the one on the left to get the Earth Hammer. Follow the secret passages for treasure, then go back and take the stairs in the middle to the 8th Floor.

There are tiles here which blink on and off. If you are standing on a tile when it blinks off you will fall to the floor below, so if you want to get anywhere you need to locate the tiles that stay on and stand on them. Start at the edge, one square left or right from the center, then at the right moment go up two squares and wait at the stable one. Now, again at the right moment, go back to the center and up three to open the chest. Let yourself fall through the floor this time to land in the 7th Floor. Get the chest here, then exit north; the door is one way so dropping from the floor above is the only way to reach this. Follow the secret passage back to the start and return to the 8th floor.

Hop the tiles to get to the chest on the right, then continue up and take the stair in the northeast corner to a new section of the 7th Floor. There are chests here but it's a dead end otherwise. Go back to the 8th floor, hop back to the start, then follow a similar path on the left. Get the treasure in another section of the 7th floor, then go up the stairs, avoiding the smooth parts so you don't slide back down. Exit to a new section of the 8th floor.

The only thing to do in this area is to pick up the lithograph in the middle; a cutscene starts. The floor rises and you are lifted to the top of the pyramid. Krile notices the name Bahamut written on the lithograph. The odd shaped peninsula where you warped to Galuf's world sinks into the sea and a huge dragon appears in its place and says it will be waiting at North Mountain. Go down the side of the pyramid and back to the desert.
