This is a list of the sidequests in Final Fantasy V. Completing these is optional but you may acquire valuable items. Optional bosses and areas are covered in the main walkthrough.

Pianos[edit]

This is a quests where Bartz gradually learns to play the piano by practicing in various locations.

Tule[edit]

Go to the pub and notice the dancers on stage to the east. Move to the stool next to the stage and face the dancers to get a rather special performance. (Opera fans will recognize the music for this from the aria "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" (Love is a Rebel Bird), aka "Habanera", in Bizet's Carmen.) You can now get on the stage and reach the piano. Go to the stool next to the piano and check it to start playing.

Carwen[edit]

The piano is located in the northeast corner of the pub.

Karnak[edit]

The piano is located in the northeast corner of the pub, near the stairs.

Jachol[edit]

The piano is located in the northwest corner of the pub.

Crescent Town[edit]

Minstrel's House in the southeast corner of town.

Lugor Bordertown[edit]

Renamed: Regole (GBA)

Go to the pub, then find the hidden passage starting in the southwest corner; having the Secret ability will help with this. Follow the passage to the pub's back room to find the piano.

Moore Village[edit]

The piano is located in the north end of the pub.

Mirage[edit]

Enter the pub through the hidden door on the north side, then go down the stairs and through a small room to the outside. Go through a tunnel and enter the building next to the weapon shop. Continue north, go down the stairs, to the basement, and follow the corridor south. Finally, follow the hidden passages west to a small room with the piano.

When you have played every piano you become the "Piano Master". Return to Crescent and demonstrate what you've learned to the minstrel, then talk to him to learn the LVL Song.

Chocobo tour[edit]

Around the world[edit]

When you visit Mirage, go behind the bar, down the stair and speak to the person in the first room you come to. He offers a reward if you can go around the world on a yellow chocobo. Exit the village and find Boko wherever you left him, we'll assume it was in front of Gill's cave. You need to make a circuit around the largs sea in the middle of the world map. Start by following the shore west and north to Karnak. Contine west and south to Surgate Castle. Now go south, past the hole, to Valley of Dragons, then Kllb, and Val Castle. Continue through the valley to the south until you come out on the shore again. Follow the long isthmus, going past Mirage and Crescent, and when you reach a large forest on the eastern continent, continue north to the hole where Tycoon Castle was. The rest of the journey is the same as when you first left Tycoon Castle in this world.

When you have completed the circuit, return to Mirage and talk to the person in the small room again to get the Mirage Vest.

Behind the falls[edit]

Take the chocobo back to Tule, then go north through a valley, follow the shore east to Sealed Castle. Go north from there to Lugor, then west to a valley with a small patch of desert and continue to a small lake. Follow the stream west until it forks, and follow the north fork until you reach the waterfall. Explore the top of the falls until you enter a new area. Check the ground here to find the Magic Lamp.

Stingray[edit]

Finding the Stingray and getting its extremely useful Blue spell is difficult enough that it warrants being called a subquest. This can be started any time after you get the airship in World 3. Before starting, make sure you have a Blue Mage or a character with the Learning ability, and also that you have a character with the Cntrl ability. Prepare for a tough battle since the Stingray can be a challenging enemy.

Go to the sea in the eastern continent south of the large desert. Locate the small peninsula south of the tower in the desert. Once you get the sub you can also find this as the location of the sunken tower. There is a small area east of this peninsula where the random sea monster battles are different than in the rest of the ocean. Start circling around to the east of the peninsula to get random encounters and keep trying until you get the Stingray. Just to keep you on the right track, if you get a battle with two enemies, or a battle that does not have Fins (called Sahagin in some platforms), then you're looking in the wrong area and you need to stay closer to the peninsula or stay further to the north. Even if you're searching in the right area, each random battle only has a one in sixteen chance of being the Stingray battle you want. So it will take an average of sixteen tries before you get Stingray, but you could get it on the first try or it could take many more tries.

Once you get the Stingray, use Cntrl until it's controlled, then have it cast Guardian on your party, and finally defeat the monster to learn the spell. Stingray has high evade and defense, and also a lot of HP, so unless you're prepared to do some damage dealing the battle could take a while.
