Controls[edit]

  • Steering Wheel: Use the steering wheel for steering your car (Team Williams if you are player 1 or 5, Team McLaren if you are player 2 or 6, Team March if you are player 3 or 7, or Team Lotus if you are player 4 or 8) left and right just as you would with any real car (their controls are somewhat looser than the two Pole Position games, however). On the NES conversion, the steering wheel is replaced by pressing left and right on the D-Pad.
  • Gas Pedal: Step on the gas pedal to accelerate your car. On the NES conversion, the gas pedal is replaced by the A Button on the NES Controller.
  • Break Pedal: Step on the break pedal to decelerate your car. On the NES conversion, this pedal is replaced by the B Button on the NES Controller.
  • Hi/Lo Shift: Use the gear shift to change the gear that your car is driving in (as with the two Pole Position games, you should start it out in low gear, then shift it into high gear once it has reached 100 km/h). On the NES conversion, the gear shift is replaced by pressing up and down on the D-Pad.

CPU Cars[edit]

If a single player is playing the game alone, then his position in the race will never change from 1/1, regardless of how many of these plain green CPU-controlled cars he passes; however, if multiple players are playing the game simultaneously when four two-player cabinets are linked together, and any of those other players are ahead of the first player at any time, the first player's position will be 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6, 7/7 or 8/8.
