Stage 16[edit]

Enemies: 152

Once your Fighters have come flying up into view from the bottom of the screen, and the background has faded back in, an Asteroid will come flying into view from the left side of the screen, as eight wormholes open up in its centre and eight Amembo emerge from them while firing a hail of bullets down at you; once you've fired a shot at as many of the Amembo as you can to kill them, the remaining ones and the Asteroid will begin flying around the screen in an anticlockwise direction. A second Asteroid shall now come flying into view from the right side of the screen as eight more wormholes open up in its centre and eight Batta emerge from them while firing another hail of bullets down at you - and once you have fired a shot at as many of the Batta as you can to kill them, the remaining ones and the second Asteroid will start flying around the screen in an anticlockwise direction. A third Asteroid will then fly into view from the screen's left side as eight more wormholes open up in its centre and eight Goei emerge from them while firing off a third hail of bullets down at you; once you have fired a shot at as many of the Goei as you can to kill them, the remaining ones and the third Asteroid will start flying around the screen in an anticlockwise direction. A fourth Asteroid will now come flying into view from the right side of the screen as eight more wormholes open up in its centre, and eight Ei emerge from them while firing a fourth hail of bullets down at you - and once you've fired a shot at as many of the Ei as you can to kill them, the remaining ones and the fourth Asteroid will start flying around the screen in an anticlockwise direction. Once you have fired a single shot at each of the remaining Amembo, Batta, Goei, and Ei to kill them, and enough shots at each of the Asteroids to kill them, each Asteroid will reveal a Boss Tentoumushi; once you've fired two shots at each of them to kill them, a thirty-third wormhole shall open up in the centre of the screen as twelve more Goei emerge from it and circle around while firing a fifth hail of bullets down at you. Once you have fired a shot at as many of these as you can, to kill them, a maximum of four of them will fly down towards your Fighters (the others will take their places in the formation) - and once you've fired a shot at each of these, to kill them, a thirty-fourth wormhole shall open up in the centre of the screen, as two Yuubaku Mushi, five more Batta, two more Boss Tentoumushi and three Boss Choucho emerge from it and circle around while firing a sixth hail of bullets down at you. Once you fire a single shot at as many of the non-Boss enemies as you can, to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss enemies as you can, to kill them), a maximum of the two Yuubaku Mushi and one Boss Choucho shall fly away off the top of the screen, while a maximum of two Batta shall fly down towards your Fighters (the others shall again take their places in the formation); once you've fired a single shot at each of the non-Boss enemies to kill them (and two shots at the Boss Choucho to kill him), a thirty-fifth wormhole shall open up in the centre of the screen as six more Batta and six more Amembo emerge from it and circle around while firing a seventh hail of bullets down at you. Once you've fired a shot at as many of these as you can to kill them, a maximum of one Batta will fly off the top of the screen while a maximum of two more of both enemy types will fly down towards your Fighters (the others will once again take their places in the formation) - and once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, a thirty-sixth wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen, as twelve more Amembo emerge from it and circle around while firing an eighth hail of bullets down at you. Once you fire a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, a maximum of four of them will fly down towards the Fighters (the others will yet again take their places in the formation); once you have fired off a shot at each of them to kill them, a thirty-seventh wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen as twelve more Amembo emerge from it and circle around while firing a ninth hail of bullets down at you. Once you've fired a shot at as many of these as you can to kill them, a maximum of four of them shall fly down towards your Fighters (the others will, for the fifth time, take their places in the formation) - and once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, two more Boss Tentoumushi, two more Boss Choucho, and sixteen more Batta will come flying into view from the left and right sides of the screen and circle around while firing a tenth hail of bullets down at you. Once you've fired a single shot at as many of the Batta as you can to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss enemies as you can to kill them) a maximum of eleven Batta shall fly away off the top of the screen (the others will for the sixth time take their places in the formation); once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, two more wormholes will open up on the left and right sides of the screen, as four Green Tombows and twelve more Batta emerge from them and circle around while firing an eleventh hail of bullets down at you. Once you fire a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, a maximum of eight Batta shall fly away off the top of the screen (while a maximum of all four Green Tombows and the other four Batta shall fly down towards your Fighters) - and once you've fired a shot at each of them to kill them, two more Yuubaku Mushi, two more Boss Choucho and six more Amembo shall come flying into view from the screen's left and right sides, circle around while firing a twelfth hail of bullets down at you, and take their place in the formation. Once you've fired out a single shot at as many of the non-Boss enemies as you can to kill them (with two shots at as many of the Boss Choucho as you can to kill them), any remaining enemies in the formation will start to attack your Fighters; once you have fired a single shot at each of the remaining non-Boss enemies to kill them (and two shots at each of the remaining Boss enemies to kill them) your Fighters shall fly up off the top of the screen as the text "STAGE CLEAR!!" appears on it. It's also worth noting that if a Boss Tentoumushi tries to capture you as a Blue or Yellow Dual Fighter it shall only capture one half of it, so if you kill the offending Boss Tentoumushi before your Fighter reaches it, it will be freed restoring your Blue or Yellow Dual Fighter - however, if you don't kill him in time your captured Fighter shall turn gray as the offending Boss Tentoumushi flies back up to the top of the formation. If you have more than one life remaining your next Fighter shall fly up into view from the screen's bottom (but if you do not the game shall end); once either player kills the offending Boss Tentoumushi while he is attacking, the now-retrieved Fighter will return to its original colour, and fall back down to the bottom of the screen to meld with the retrieving one (creating a Red Dual Fighter, the most powerful of all the Dual Fighter types).

Stage 17[edit]

Enemies: 108

Once your Fighters have come flying up into view from the bottom of the screen and the background has faded back in, the text "SPACE-PLANT ZONE" is displayed upon the screen; eleven groups of four enemies (the first four of which are comprised of a Yuubaku Mushi, a Batta, an Amembo and a Boss Tentoumushi, while the fifth group is comprised of a Yuubaku Mushi, a Batta, an Amembo and a Kumo, the next five are comprised of a Yuubaku Mushi, two Batta and a Kumo, and the eleventh one is comprised of a Yuubaku Mushi, two Batta and an Amembo) shall then come flying into view from the left side of the screen while firing a hail of bullets down at you, cross over to the opposite side of the screen five times and take their places in the formation; once you fire a single shot at as many of the non-Boss enemies as you can, to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss Tentoumushi as you can, to kill them), twelve more groups of three enemies (the first four of which are comprised of a Boss Choucho, a Batta, and an Amembo, while the next six are comprised of two Batta and a Kumo and the last two are comprised of two Batta and an Amembo) shall fly down into view from the top of the screen while firing a second hail of bullets down at you, cross over to the opposite side of the screen five times and take their places in the formation. Once you fire a single shot at as many of the non-Boss enemies as you can, to kill them (with two shots at as many of the Boss Choucho as you can, to kill them), all remaining enemies in the formation will start to attack your Fighters - and once you've fired a single shot at each of the remaining non-Boss enemies to kill them (and two shots at each of the remaining Boss ones to kill them), a wormhole shall open up in the screen's centre as fourteen more Amembo emerge from it and circle around while firing a third hail of bullets down at you. Once you have fired a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, a maximum of eight of them will fly down towards your Fighters (the others will take their places in another formation); once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, two more wormholes will open up on the left and right sides of the screen as fourteen more Amembo emerge from them, and circle around while firing a fourth hail of bullets down at you. Once you've fired a shot at as many of these as you can to kill them, a maximum of four of them will fly down towards your Fighters (the others will, again, take their places in the second formation) - and once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them any remaining enemies in the second formation will start to attack your Fighters. Once you have fired a shot at each of the remaining enemies in the second formation to kill them, the Fighters will fly up off the top of the screen to the eighteenth stage as the text "STAGE CLEAR!!" appears on it.

Stage 18[edit]

Enemies: 174

Once your Fighters have come flying up into view from the bottom of the screen and the background has faded back in, a wormhole shall open up at the bottom of the screen as a Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it and flies upwards while firing a single bullet down at you; once you have fired a shot at him to kill him, a second wormhole shall open up at the top of the screen as twenty-four Goei emerge from it in all sixteen directions while firing a hail of bullets down at you. Once you have fired a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, any remaining ones will fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones that fly off the bottom of the screen will also be flying down towards the Fighters) as a third wormhole opens up at the bottom of it and another Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly upwards while firing a single bullet down at you - and once you've fired a shot at him to kill him a fourth wormhole will open up at the top of the screen as twenty-four Batta emerge from it in all sixteen directions while firing another hail of bullets down at you. Once you fire one shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, any remaining ones will fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones that fly off the bottom of the screen will also, again, be flying down towards your Fighters) as a fifth wormhole opens up at the bottom of it and a third Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly upwards while firing a single bullet down at you; once you have fired a shot at him to kill him a sixth wormhole shall open up at the top of the screen as twelve Two-Coloured Tentoumushi and twelve Amembo emerge from it in all sixteen directions, while firing a third hail of bullets down at you. After you fire a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, any remaining ones shall fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones that fly off the bottom of the screen will also, once again, fly down towards the Fighters), as a seventh wormhole opens up at the bottom of it and a fourth Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly upwards while firing a single bullet down at you - and once you have fired a shot at him, to kill him, an eighth wormhole will open up at the top of the screen as four Boss Choucho emerge from it in the four cardinal directions while firing a fourth hail of bullets down at you. Once you've fired two shots at all of them to kill them a ninth wormhole shall open up in the centre of the screen as three more Yuubaku Mushi, four Boss Galagas, four Boss Tentoumushi and four Boss Choucho emerge from them, and fly around the screen in an anticlockwise direction while firing a fifth hail of bullets down at you (the Boss enemies will also be circling around the Yuubaku Mushi in a clockwise direction); once you've fired a single shot at each of the Yuubaku Mushi to kill them (and two shots at each of the Boss enemies to kill them) a tenth wormhole will open up at the top of the screen as twenty-four more Goei emerge from it in all sixteen directions (while firing a sixth hail of bullets down at you). Once you fire a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, any remaining ones shall fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones that fly off the bottom of the screen will also, yet again, be flying down towards the Fighters) as an eleventh wormhole opens up at the bottom of it and an eighth Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly upwards while firing a single bullet down at you - and once you fire a shot at him to kill him a twelfth wormhole will open at the top of the screen as twenty-four more Batta emerge from it in all sixteen directions while firing a seventh hail of bullets down at you. Once you have fired a shot at as many of these as you possibly can to kill them any remaining ones shall fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones that fly off the bottom of the screen will also for the fifth time be flying down towards the Fighters) as a thirteenth wormhole opens up at the bottom of it and a ninth Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly up while firing a single bullet down at you; once you have fired a shot at him to kill him, a fourteenth wormhole shall open up at the top of the screen as twelve more Two-Coloured Tentoumushi and twelve more Amembo emerge from it in all sixteen directions while firing an eighth hail of bullets down towards you. Once you've fired a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, all remaining ones will fly off all four sides of the screen (the ones flying off the bottom of the screen shall also, for the sixth time, fly down towards your Fighters) as a seventh wormhole opens up at its bottom and a tenth Yuubaku Mushi emerges from it to fly upwards while firing a single bullet down at you - and once you have fired out a shot at him to kill him, a sixteenth and final wormhole shall open up at the top of the screen, as four more Boss Choucho emerge from it in the four cardinal directions (while firing a ninth and final hail of bullets down at you). Once you've fired two shots at each of them to kill them, the Fighters shall fly up off the top of the screen as the text "STAGE CLEAR!!" appears on it; they'll then proceed to the nineteenth stage, which has sixty-three fewer enemies than this one.

Stage 19[edit]

Enemies: 111

Once your Fighters have come flying up into view from the bottom of the screen, and that background has faded back in, a wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen as fourteen Amembo emerge from it and circle around while firing a hail of bullets down at you; once you've fired a shot at as many of these as you can to kill them, a maximum of four of them will fly off the top of the screen, while a maximum of four more of them will fly down towards your Fighters (the others shall take their places in the formation). Once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, two more wormholes will open up on the screen's left and right sides as fourteen more Amembo emerge from them and circle around (while firing another hail of bullets down at you) - and once you have fired a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, a maximum of two of them will fly off the top of the screen, while a maximum of four more will fly down towards your Fighters (the others shall again take their places in the formation). Once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, a fourth wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen, as two Boss Choucho and five Batta emerge from it and circle around while firing a third hail of bullets down at you; once you have fired a single shot at as many of the Batta as you can to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss Choucho as you can to kill them), a maximum of two of the Batta shall fly down towards your Fighters (the others will once again take their places in the formation). Once you've fired a shot at both of them to kill them, a fifth wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen, as two Boss Tentoumushi and five more Batta emerge from it and circle around (while firing a fourth hail of bullets down at you) - and once you've fired a single shot at as many of the Batta as you can to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss Tentoumushi as you can to kill them), a maximum of two of the Batta shall fly down towards your Fighters (the others shall, yet again, take their places in the formation). Once you fire a shot at both of them to kill them, a sixth wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen, as ten Two-Coloured Tentoumushi emerge from it to circle around while firing a fifth hail of bullets down at you; once you have fired a shot at as many of these as you can, to kill them, a maximum of four of them shall fly down towards the Fighters. Once you have fired a shot at each of them, to kill them, all remaining enemies in the formation will start to attack the Fighters - and once you've fired a shot at each of the remaining non-Boss enemies, to kill them (and two shots at each of the remaining Boss enemies to kill them), a seventh wormhole shall open up in the centre of the screen as two more Boss Choucho, two more Boss Tentoumushi, and ten more Batta emerge from it, and circle around (while firing a sixth hail of bullets down at you). Once you've fired a single shot at as many of the Batta as you can to kill them (and two shots at as many of the Boss enemies as you can, to kill them), a maximum of four Batta shall fly down towards the Fighters (the others will take their places in a second formation); once you fire a shot at each of them to kill them, an eighth wormhole will open up in the centre of the screen, as five more Two-Coloured Tentoumushi emerge from it and circle around while firing an eighth hail of bullets down at you. Once you fire off a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them a maximum of two of them shall fly down towards your Fighters (the others will again take their places in the second formation) - and once you've fired a shot at all of them to kill them, a ninth wormhole will open up in the screen's centre, as five more Two-Coloured Tentoumushi emerge from it and circle around (while firing a ninth hail of bullets down at you). Once you've fired a shot at as many of them as you can to kill them, a maximum of two of them will fly down towards your Fighters (the others will once again take their places in the second formation); once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them, any remaining enemies in the second formation will start to attack your Fighters. Once you've fired a shot at each of the remaining non-Boss enemies to kill them (along with two shots at each of the remaining Boss enemies to kill them), an Enormous Ant and two Kumo will fly down into view from the top of the screen (while firing a ninth hail of bullets down at you) - and once you have fired a single shot at both of the Kumo to kill them (with enough shots at the Enormous Ant, to kill him), a tenth wormhole shall open up at the screen's top as twenty-two more Kumo, six more Two-Coloured Tentoumushi, two more Boss Choucho and two more Boss Tentoumushi emerge from it while firing a tenth hail of bullets down at you. After you fire a single shot at as many of the non-Boss enemies as you can to kill them, and two shots at as many of the Boss enemies as you can to kill them, all the remaining ones will take their places in a third formation and begin to attack your Fighters; once you've fired a shot at each of the remaining non-Boss enemies to kill them (and two shots at each of the remaining Boss enemies to kill them), your Fighters shall fly up off the top of the screen, as the text "STAGE CLEAR!!" appears upon it (they will then proceed onto the twentieth stage, which is this game's fourth and penultimate "Challenging Stage").

Stage 20 (Challenging Stage)[edit]

Enemies: 40 (non-attacking)

Once your Fighters have come flying up into view from the bottom of the screen, and that background has faded back in again, the text "CHALLENGING STAGE" shall fly into view from the right side of the screen, and off its left side; five Hotaru will then come flying into view from the left side of the screen, rotate ninety degrees clockwise and anticlockwise twice in succession (as the background changes a maximum of two times), and fly off the right side of the screen. Once you have fired off a shot at each of them to kill them, five more Hotaru will come flying into view from the right side of the screen, rotate ninety degrees anticlockwise and clockwise twice in succession as the background changes a maximum of two more times, and fly off the left side of the screen - and once you've fired a shot at each of them to kill them, ten Galbosses will come flying into view from the left side of the screen, fly down while swerving right and left and fly off the right side of the screen. Once you have fired off a shot at each of them to kill them, ten more Galbosses shall come flying into view from the right side of the screen, fly down while swerving left and right and fly off the left side of the screen; once you have fired a shot at each of them to kill them ten Tombows will come flying into view from the screen's left and right sides, circle around clockwise and anticlockwise twice in succession, and fly back off the right and left sides of the screen. Once you have fired a shot at each of these to kill them, your Fighters will fly up off the screen's top as the background fades out for the twentieth time; the text "RESULTS" shall now fly down into view from the top-right corner of the screen.

In one-player mode the player's number of hits and bonus of 100 points per hit will be tabulated in the centre of the screen, and if he or she managed to kill all forty enemies, the text of "PERFECT! SPECIAL BONUS 10000 PTS" will appear below it; however, in two-player mode, both players' numbers of hits and bonuses of 100 points per hit will be tabulated on the left and right sides of the screen and the text "PERFECT! SPECIAL BONUS 10000 PTS" will appear under that of the higher one, even if that player did not actually kill all forty enemies. The Fighters will then go on to the Space-Flower Zone.

Note: If you do not move your Fighter or fire any shots at the enemies during this stage, the text of "LUCKY! AUDIENCE BONUS 7650 PTS" will appear below your number of hits (which will obviously be 0) and bonus (which will obviously be "NONE") at the end of it; 7650 is Namco's goroawase number.
