Level 3 - The Mainland Coast (03:16)
Watch a short video walkthrough of this stage.

Quickly jump-attack the Dark Green Heninger to knock him into the water. You want him out of the way because of what is coming. A Dark Green Longmoan and a Lemanaya on a Blue Dragon will sneak up from behind. You can grab the dragon if you wish, but either way get rid of them.

Note: In the original arcade version, the dragon is Red instead, and you should try to keep it for the entire level, as it can kill enemies reliably from across the screen.

Continue onwards. When you reach the gap do a dash attack and you should clear it fine. Next up is a Blue Thief with three magic pots. Since you have so many from the bonus stage getting his probably isn't all that important (unless you're Tyris). Next up are two Strobayas.

After this, you'll see some doors (in the arcade and Amiga versions, notice the "Sega Beer Gardens" sign). Sergeant Malt and Sergeant Hop will come out of them; in the home versions if you advance slowly enough only one will come out at a time, meaning you can wait for him to come to you and then finish him off before moving on to the second. Regardless of tactic they're the same as the Bad Brothers only with more health. You can use your magic in this battle if you want, because you'll get more immediately after.

Again, if you are playing the arcade, they can pick you up and toss you unless you are on the dragon. With the dragon they are easy. Just stand back and breathe fireballs. If you have a blue one, it's almost as useful.

Up next are two Blue Thieves, holding five magic pots in total. In the next area you'll find two Gold Heningers and a Gold Longmoan. They're identical to their past incarnations just with more health. Once they're dealt with the boss (Lt. Bitter on Arcade Mode, Death Adder Jr. on Beginner Mode), comes through the doors. He's flanked by a Silver Heninger and Silver Longmoan. Get rid of these two first then focus on the boss. He is much like Death Adder Jr. from the home versions' Beginner Mode. Jump-attacks don't work well against him as he will often simply knock you out of the air. All of his attacks remove a whole life bar, and his sword has a great deal of reach. Repeated dash attacks work well unless you are Axe Battler, as Lt. Bitter will be unable to swing his sword fast enough. Or you can use your magic if you want to. Waiting until he closes on you and then dodging up or down to make him reach melee range also works fairly well.

If you are playing the arcade version, dash attacks will fail. He will compensate and swing his sword earlier and hit you. Instead you should use the red dragon to attack from a distance for an easy win. If you have lost the dragon, you must dodge and counter, or do a VERY well-timed jumping downstab which will cause his sword strike to miss.

Once he's taken care of the stage is finished. In Beginner Mode you jump to the Scoring screen, while in Arcade Mode you proceed to Stage 4: Fiend's Path.

Bonus Stage[edit]

The Thieves here have two pieces of meat and two magic pots.
