Magic[edit]

When you defeat mages they will often drop books. These are used to cast magic attacks. Unlike the rest of the series, magic can be charged up. Simply hold down A button until the appropriate number of magic points are lit up beneath your character's portrait.

To cancel magic charging you can release the magic button when jumping, stunned, or otherwise unable to use magic.

Moves[edit]

  • Combo: hit attack repeatedly to cycle between four different attacks. Each progressive attack will have slightly more reach and deal more damage than the previous one.
  • Throw: while an enemy is stunned, close in and press attack to throw them. You can also throw them in the opposite direction by pushing that direction while performing the grab.
  • Jump attack: jump, then hit attack while in midair. This will always knock enemies down.
  • Dash Attack: tap left or right twice, then hit attack when within melee range of the target. Very useful against bosses that have slower or no dash ability. If you dash against a dashing enemy the loser is randomly determined.
  • Special Attack: hit attack and jump at the same time. Ax Battler performs a powerful forward slash, then turns and jumps to slash behind him. Tyris Flare does a back-flip that hits enemies on either side. Gilius Thunderhead plants his axe in the ground and spins around it.
  • Death jab: dash, then jump, then press attack to thrust your blade into your enemy's skull. This will always knock enemies down, and kills weak enemies quickly. Can't be done while riding. Many enemies (especially Skeletons) will dodge this attack, so for best results perform this when the target is performing an attack or dash animation.
