If you're not going to be a novice for the fire mages, see below.

As a novice[edit]

If you want to become a fire magician, you first have to become a novice in the monastery. There are two ways to achieve that:

  • Obtain a statue Dragomir tells you about. Dragomir will ask you to take it to the monastery and you're in. (obviously this isn't as easy as it sounds)
  • Bring 1000 gold and a sheep to the monastery. You can obtain a sheep from Pepe at the Mercenary farm. (no other farmers appear to sell any sheep) The sheep is called Betsy and you can "talk" to her to make her follow you or stay put. If you lost track of Betsy, return to Pepe and Betsy will be there.

Either way, Pedro will now give you the key and you can go in. Leave Betsy with Opolos. You'll now have to prove yourself as a novice.

Not sweeping the chambers[edit]

Parlan will ask you to sweep the chambers. Except you can't. There's a broom you can pick up, and you can use it, but Nameless will just utter that this is gonna take forever. Which it will, this quest can't be completed like that. So what to do? Get someone else to do it! Talk to the other novices and convince them to do the work for you.

Prayer for the Paladins and the black wolf[edit]

Talk to Marduk. He'll ask you to pray. Go over to the statue and say a prayer for the Paladins. Talk to Marduk again. Sergio now also has a task for you. He was going to help Isgaroth, but he's now giving you this task. Go see Isgaroth (outside the monastery, cross the bridge and go to the statue on the right) and he'll tell you about a black wolf. Go towards the tavern and you'll run into the beast. Kill it and tell Isgaroth the good news.

Sausage distribution, the lost recipe, fire nettles[edit]

Go to Gorax in the winery. He'll ask you to distribute sausages along the novices. Go to the basement and you'll find the sausages in a chest. In the same room there's also a recipe you should pick up. Distribute the sausages. Don't forget:

  • Pedro outside.
  • Garwig in the basement
  • Novices who may be praying in front of the high council

You can also do this at night so you can find most novices in their beds, just wake everybody up for their sausage. Show Opolos the recipe before returning it to Neoras. Also ask Neoras what he needs, and give him the Fire Nettles he asks for. You have most likely already picked them up somewhere along the way.

Wine delivery[edit]

Talk to Gorax again and he'll ask you to deliver a wine order to the tavern. The order must be paid on delivery: 240 gold. Orlan will try to pay only 100 gold. Refuse and he'll give you a choice: 240 gold or 100 gold and some spell scrolls a guest "left" at his tavern. (2 light scrolls, 1 heal light wounds and 1 create goblin skeleton) Take the scrolls if you want, but you'll have to pay the difference. Otherwise there are no repercussions for taking the scrolls.

Test of Fire[edit]

Talk to Parlan and he'll allow you into the library now. Talk to Karras in the library and he'll ask for 3 oblivion scrolls. If you have them, hand them over. Otherwise go back to town and buy them from Ignaz.

Read all the books in the library. One of them will tell you that you can demand the test of fire, so go to the high council and demand it. Talk to all three council members, there is no issue starting the three quests of The Test of Fire at the same time.

The Living Rock

Serpentes will give you "The Living Rock". Dyrian will offer you a sleep scroll if you bump into him. Go to the basement, cast sleep on Garwig and take the sacred hammer. The golem is at a bend in the road near the temple ruins behind some trees.

If you killed Garwig to get the sacred hammer (you shouldn't have!), the moment you return to the high council having defeated the golem, Serpentes will now know you were the killer and attack you! If you don't have any earlier savegame to go back to, wait until there are at least 2 novices praying in front of the high council before you fess up. And when you get attacked, run. Watch as the novices will kill Serpentes.

The Path of Believers

Pyrokar's quest. Go to the area where the black troll lives. (the troll can be seen on your map up north) Cross the bridge. On your right there should be a statue of Innos. Keep going and somewhere in the bushes you'll find a hidden cave. Go in and go right and you'll find you've been beat by Agar. Oh well, too bad, game over. Actually no, because Agar is a sore loser. Talk to him. No matter what you say, he's paranoid and will attack you. Take him down, take the blank rune from the chest and leave. On your way back to the monastery, you may run into Ulf. (depending on what path you take and/or whether you allowed him to follow you) He's also dead-set on becoming a fire mage. He will fight you, but before that happens you can ask him for a smoke. Take it as this will slow down time and make the fight easier.

Create a Rune

Ulthar will ask you to create a rune. Go to the library with your blank rune and talk to Hyglas. This will cost you 5 LP, but you don't have a choice. Go to the rune table and create the fire arrow rune. Go back to the council and they'll make you a fire mage.

Not as a novice[edit]

Somewhere before Isgaroth on your left (when facing in the direction of the tavern) is a rock wall you can climb. Once you make it to the top, you can walk over to the monastery and drop down on the roof. From there you can drop down into the courtyard. Gorax has a key to the treasure room downstairs. Getting out of the monastery is another story. You have to climb onto the foot of one of the pillars in the courtyard, go into walkmode and fiddle about until you manage to climb up onto the roof.
