iB-1[edit]

One of the most important driving skills is braking while you are cornering, which you will now practice using the first corner of the Tsukuba circuit. After you start, drive along the left side of the main straight, then using the point where there is a momentary gap in the grass as a guide, swing towards the kerb of the first corner and turn. There is a gentle uphill slope from this point until you reach the first corner. Apply the brakes as you climb this hill to bring the car smoothly into the inside of the corner. If you hit the accelerator at this point, you won't be able to make the corner. Hold the accelerator constant for a while, then use the corner post that you can see in front of you as a guide to timing the acceleration out of the corner. Thoroughly memorise the speed at which you are able to take the corner.

  • Gold: 0'14.440
  • Silver: 0'14.870
  • Bronze: 0'15.570

iB-2[edit]

This is a test of high speed braking whilst steering using the Nürburgring. Accelerate from the starting point down the straight and take the first corner at full acceleration. Approach the next right corner from the left side of the track, and try to use the green marker on the right side of the track as a braking guide. Although you should turn at the same time, the line you take should be getting gradually closer to the inside, as the corner then curves sharply unexpectedly. If you accelerate too early, you will come off the track in the second half of the corner. Try to find the best drop in speed as you are cornering.

  • Gold: 0'25.200
  • Silver: 0'26.000
  • Bronze: 0'27.300

iB-3[edit]

You should now try to drive through the "spoon" corner of the Suzuka circuit, made up of a combination of two corners. Race through the gentle right-hand corner after the start at full acceleration, then approach the first right corner of the spoon. Try to ride up onto the rumble strip whilst braking but keep this controlled. Accelerate out of the corner at this point, then turn in to the second corner. This corner is sharper than the first corner, and it also falls away suddenly so you should be careful not to understeer. You need to apply the brakes momentarily as you enter the second corner to stabilise the orientation of the car. If you are using manual gears, you can expect faster times if you do not drop to second gear, but remain in third through the corner.

  • Gold: 0'27.600
  • Silver: 0'28.430
  • Bronze: 0'30.230

iB-4[edit]

This is a drive through the difficult midsection of the Deep Forest course. You pass through a tunnel just after the start, and this is followed by a large sweeping right corner. Be careful not to accelerate too rapidly or you will understeer. Once you come out of the second tunnel there is a large left corner after a hill. If you do not begin steering while you still unable to see the road ahead, you will not be able to make it to the inside of the corner. You should also start braking near the peak of the hill. Hold the steering constant around the final left corner and you will feel like the car is shooting out of the corner under the power of acceleration alone.

  • Gold: 0'28.000
  • Silver: 0'28.840
  • Bronze: 0'30.600

iB-5[edit]

This time follow the GT-R pace car around the Costa di Amalfi circuit for one lap. This course features difficult up and downhill sections and tight turns. Watch the motion of the pace car carefully and thoroughly memorise the racing line. Be careful to control your speed in the downhill section in the second half of the course. You should also make sure you use the full width of the track in the final tight S-bends or you will not be able to make the turns correctly.

  • Gold: 2'46.000
  • Silver: 2'50.000
  • Bronze: 3'02.500

iB-6[edit]

This is a cone slalom that uses the straight section of Fuji Speedway. Speed between the cones and try to reach the goal area as fast as possible. If you touch a cone you will be instantly be disqualified. As you build up speed, the car becomes harder to control so drive in a rhythm so that you lift off the accelerator as you turn past a cone and accelerate again as you head towards the next cone. The training car is fitted with ASM (Active Stability Management), which will stabilise the car body as you apply the brakes and control both under and oversteer.

  • Gold: 0'17.700
  • Silver: 0'18.560
  • Bronze: 0'20.890

iB-7[edit]

This time you will try driving through the same cone slalom as the last test, but using a BMW Z4 with the ASM turned off. As the car will spin easily as you build up speed, you need to drive relatively cautiously. It is imperative that you do not inadvertently accelerate too hard as the car is turning. Check the speedometer frequently and try to find the maximum speed that you can go through the slalom, the aim here is to gauge the difference in the handling of a car with the ASM inactive.

  • Gold: 0'17.700
  • Silver: 0'18.560
  • Bronze: 0'20.890

iB-8[edit]

Here you will drive through the right-angled corners (typical of many city streets worldwide) of the New York course. These corners differ from circuit corners in that you only momentarily touch the kerb, and so it is very important that you precisely control your speed as you come into corners. Pay close attention to the braking points that will determine your speed. For the corners in the middle of the race where you come out of a narrow street into a large avenue, drive along a line that uses the full width of the large avenue. In the final section where there is a succession of right-angled corners, concentrate on taking a line though all of the corners as one, rather than focusing on the corners one at a time. It is important that you use the full width of the track without being afraid of the barriers on the side of the course.

  • Gold: 0'42.500
  • Silver: 0'43.560
  • Bronze: 0'46.400

Coffee Break[edit]

This coffee break is a reverse version of the Nation "A" license. One hundred cones are arranged in a spiral and the aim is to knock them all over - starting from the outside. As the curve becomes gradually tighter, the difficulty also increases so be careful to control your speed and not understeer.

  • Gold: 0'31.500
  • Silver: 0'33.333
  • Bronze: (no limit)

iB-9[edit]

This is a test of taking the correct racing line that uses the tightest section of the Italian course. Soon after the start you enter a section of road that is flanked on both sides by stone walls. As the road curves slightly, brake just before this section to lose sufficient speed. A series of tight corners appears next - use the full width of the narrow streets, and try as much as possible to take a straight line through this section. If you partially apply the accelerator rather than switching between full-on, and full-off you will be able to drive faster overall. Approach the final steep hill from as far to the right as possible and take care that you don't touch the wall as you reach the hill. The key too improving your time is to memorise the corners and drive rhythmically.

  • Gold: 0'21.650
  • Silver: 0'22.390
  • Bronze: 0'24.000

iB-10[edit]

This another guide run, try one lap following a pace car around the city of Hong Kong. The key point to Hong Kong is that the course width varies widely. Just like the New York trial, on corners where the road width changes you should think about taking a line that exploits the maximum width of the road. When you are coming out of a narrow street into a wide street, use a point just off the apex of the turn, and you will be able to skillfully use the width of the wider road. In the reverse situation where you enter a narrow street from a wide road, you will not be able to make the corner unless the direction of the car changes within the wider street. Ensure you correctly memorise the course to fully maximise your times.

  • Gold: 1'54.500
  • Silver: 1'57.420
  • Bronze: 2'05.180

iB-11[edit]

This is a realistic dirt-driving test that uses the high speed section of the Grand Canyon. You will approach a left corner after clearing the series of 3 jumps after the start. If you steer slightly as you hit the brakes, the rear end will begin to slide and you will be able to control the slide using the accelerator and counter-steering. Although you can use the recoil from the left corner slide to enter the following right corner, be careful because if you get caught on the outer side of the first corner it will be difficult to enter the right corner. It is also important that you do not lose control of the direction of the car at the preceding jump.

  • Gold: 0'18.030
  • Silver: 0'18.410
  • Bronze: 0'19.800

iB-12[edit]

This is a test of car control on an icy road that uses the series of hairpins from the Ice Arena. If you cut directly through the first left and right corners, you are next faced with a left hairpin. If you turn the car to the right a little at the entrance to the corner then head straight for the corner, centrifugal force will make the rear end slide out and you can then control the amount of this slide using counter-steering and the accelerator. If you apply the accelerator at the wrong time, the car will understeer. You can use the same technique to get through the following right hairpin. You need to be careful because the friction of the road surface is extremely low, making the road surface even more slippery than dirt.

  • Gold: 0'24.000
  • Silver: 0'24.720
  • Bronze: 0'26.450

iB-13[edit]

In this stage you will try driving through a severe uphill/downhill section on the final part of El Capitan. Soon after the start there is a right corner that falls away. Think of this as a composite corner, actually made up of two right-hand corners. After the car reaches the kerb of the first corner, it will drift back towards the outside, then by keeping the steering constant you will come back to touch the kerb of the second corner. After running through the next left corner at full acceleration there is a blind right-hand corner directly ahead. Although you cannot see it from this point, you need to brake in this area or you will not be able to slow down in time. You also need to be careful because the slant of the road changes at the apex of the corner, making it easy to understeer as you exit. The key to improving your time through this section is to make sure the behaviour of the car does not get thrown by changes in the road surface.

  • Gold: 0'29.700
  • Silver: 0'30.860
  • Bronze: 0'33.170

iB-14[edit]

You will now try driving through another section of road with extreme variations in height, on a different part of the El Capitan course. The main point in this section is the steep hill just after the tunnel. As the apex of the corner falls exactly on the peak of the hill, you need to aim for the kerb on the right side and brake while you are still unable to see the road ahead. The weight distribution on the tyres changes as you reach the following downhill section, so you should be careful not to understeer. In addition to this, the next high-speed left corner becomes sharper at the end. Try to find the optimum point to slam down the accelerator.

  • Gold: 0'35.900
  • Silver: 0'37.000
  • Bronze: 0'40.200

iB-15[edit]

You will now try another guided run. Here you will follow a pace car around the Italian city street course for one lap. As the road is narrow throughout the entire course, your time will be severely affected if you do not keep to the ideal racing line. Carefully observe the line taken and braking points used by the pace car. Both ends of the course contain difficult compound hairpin corners. As the point where you reach the inside of the track is further back than you would expect, drive with the aim of gradually moving into the inside of the corners rather than jumping in straight away.

  • Gold: 2'11.000
  • Silver: 2'14.930
  • Bronze: 2'23.550

iB-16[edit]

The National "B" Class completion test is held on the Italian street course as with the previous test. You start at high speed on the straight section, then aim to brake at the gate at the bottom of the hill. Use the exact moment that the hill levels out as a guide. Take care to control your speed through the following right-left S bends, as this is followed by a long right corner. Try to imagine starting on the outside of the corner and finishing on the inside.

  • Gold: 0'19.000
  • Silver: 0'19.700
  • Bronze: 0'21.300
