Heroes of the Storm (HotS) is an upcoming multiplayer online battle arena video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment for Windows and OS X. The basis of the game is the combination of heroes from Blizzard's Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft and other franchises. It is a free-to-play digitally distributed online game, supported by micropayments. Blizzard does not call the game a "multiplayer online battle arena" or an "action real-time strategy" because they feel it is something different with a broader playstyle; they refer to it as a "Hero Brawler".

The game was in a limited Technical Alpha testing phase from March to September 2014. Alpha access is still available, and being opened, for players registering through Battle.net. Registration is open to sign up for the Closed Beta testing, which will begin on January 15, 2015.

Setting[edit]

The game is set in the Nexus, a place that bridges worlds and dimensions. The entirety of the setting is revealed through the two tutorial levels, in which Uther welcomes Raynor to the Nexus. Together they beat back Diablo and Stitches, who are identified as evil ones. Essentially the game boils down to good versus evil, even though they can be on the same team during the multiplayer battles. Each battle arena has its own unique setting.
