Reimu Hakurei[edit]
In Highly Responsive to Prayers, players take on the role of Reimu Hakurei, the Shrine Maiden of the Hakurei Shrine. When something destroys the Hakurei Shrine, Reimu takes action and goes through the gateway to another world, ready to punish the one responsible. Though she can't attack enemies directly, Reimu wields the power of the Yin-Yang Orb; however, this is only if she has the ability to control it. The Yin-Yang Orb has the power to take down the cards found in regular stages and the bosses found in special stages, along with the power to take down Reimu herself. If the Orb hits Reimu, it'll cost her a life. Avoid getting hit by the Orb and use it to take down enemies by taking advantage of Reimu's Gohei (the wand) and the Ofudas (shots). The wand and shots can be used to propel the Yin-Yang Orb into cards and bosses and reach the end of the stage. Both wand and shots have the ability to repel enemy bullets.
Additionally, Reimu can slide, kick, and use bombs (spirit attacks) to get out of tough situations. Sliding is a quicker way to move around the stage, but Reimu is vulnerable to all attacks (and the Orb) during a slide. The best way to avoid getting hit while sliding is kicking. This also repels enemy bullets and hits the Yin-Yang Orb with greater force, heightening its velocity. Reimu's greatest attack, however, is the bomb. A limited number of these can be used (the number of bombs you have left can be seen in the top-right corner of the screen represented by the orbs below the lives) so the best course of action would be to save them for bosses. They take out all bullets and hit every card on screen once. A maximum of five can be held at once. One bomb is obtained each time Reimu respawns and can also be obtained by getting the Bomb Extend item.
