Characters[edit]

Safari Explorer / Jungle King[edit]

Depending on which version of the game you are playing, you are either cast as a safari explorer (on the left) or as a tarzan look-alike (on the right). Either way, your mission is the same: To save your girlfriend from the island natives. To do that, you will have to maneuver your character through four different challenges. Failure to pass through each challenge properly will result in the loss of one life. You will find the description of each challenge on the walkthrough page, but in general, missing a rope, or colliding with an animal, rock, or native will kill you.

Girlfriend[edit]

This is the damsel in distress that you must rescue. She hangs on a rope suspended over a boiling pot of water at the end of the fourth stage. In order to rescue her, you must literally touch her by jumping to her position. This usually involves leaping over the second native at the same time.

Baboon[edit]

Jungle Hunt baboon.png

You won't encounter Baboon through the first level of difficulty, but after you save your girlfriend one time, you will find them swinging from the next rope that you need to swing to. When this happens, you must let the baboon swing back and forth from the rope until it rises high enough for you to leap and catch the bottom of the rope. Or you can risk it and try to land above the baboon if it's especially low. Either way, if you hit the baboon instead of the rope, you will be knocked to the jungle floor.

Crocodiles and Alligators[edit]

You will encounter this aquatic reptiles throughout the second stage. They would love nothing more than to turn you into their next meal. They bob up and down in the water, and their motion gets more erratic as the levels increase. As you swim through the infested water, you are not defenseless. You wield a knife that can be used against the crocs and gators. There are a couple of conditions that determine their point value if you kill one. They are worth 100 points to begin with. If their mouth is open when you stab them, add 100 points, and add another 100 points if they are deeper in the water. Learn the timing of the knife so that you can consistently stab the reptiles without getting eaten.

Boulders[edit]

After you climb out of the water, you must scale a mountain during an avalanche. Boulders of two different sizes will bounce down the mountain in your direction. You have two options: jump over them, or duck under them. Small boulder tends to stay low to the ground, but they can occasionally pop up into the air. Large boulders, on the other hand, tend to bounce fairly high, making them easier to duck under then jump over, but they can occasionally hug the ground, so never assume. Care must be taken when judging which action you should take. One touch from a boulder means lights out.

Natives[edit]

The natives are restless. They want girlfriend stew, and they're just waiting for the water to boil before sticking your girlfriend in the pot. There are always two natives guarding your girlfriend, but after the first level, a third can be found in the tree. The two guards move back and forth, raising and lowing their spears. You must leap over the first one so that you land between them, and then leap over the second so that you not only clear him and his spear, but you also touch your girlfriend in the process. The third native in the tree will shoot a dart at your position with amazing accuracy, so wait for him to fire, and move out of the way before the dart lands.
