Walkthrough[edit]

Kaijuu Monogatari map Babubabu start.png

Babubabu starts out in the North East corner of the map, in Reharetta Castle (location 1-O). After receiving 50 Pearls and a Heart Stone, walk around the castle to speak with its citizens. You will hear a lot about the town of Ranal. Reharetta is one of the more interesting starting points in the game. There are some stairways that are blocked off by water, so you'll need a boat to reach them. There are three different shops in the castle. There is an old man near the lower left shop who needs water. You can buy a canteen from that very same shop and give it to the man. In return, he will give you a Silver Key. Then you can find the path along the right side of the castle, and follow it north until you find a staircase. Inside you will find three chests, one of which is locked. You'll find a Poison Poppy, and a Holy in the unlocked chests and a Soldier's Friend in the locked chest.

Babubabu is no different than the other characters; you'll have to be patient and stick close to the castle in order to gain enough experience points and strength to be able to survive much farther. Babubabu is not one of the stronger characters in the game, only Kupikupi is weaker. However, like Kupikupi, the enemies closest to Reharetta are quite weak and easier to defeat. In fact, you actually have to escape from the small island to face anything challenging. To do this, you must explore the cave on the west side of the island, and traverse the underwater passage to reach the larger island to the west of Reharetta.

Gypsy: The Gypsy is waiting for you on that larger island over to the west. As explained above, you must take the passage between the caves to reach this island. Once you are on the other side, simply head south, and you will see the Gypsy's hut just waiting for you to explore (location 2-N). Enter the hut and speak with the Gypsy in order to exchange the Heart Stone for the Fourth Map.

Traveling Monk: The Traveling Monk is waiting further south. From the Gypsy's hut, head straight south until you reach what looks like a passage through very rocky terrain. This terrain will actually harm you whenever you step on it, so it's very important to stay on the grass and avoid taking damage. Once you clear the southern portion of this terrain, head west to the water, and follow it down and around to the head-shaped statue (location 5-N). Enter the statue and unlock the door using the Silver Key. This monk is located in the lower right room. Speak with him, and accept his request for a drink of water. In return, he will inform you that Babubabu's map, like Kupikupi's map, indicates the location of another scroll. This scroll can be found far south of Maiyo castle.

Ranal: Ranal is easily reached by exiting the head statue and following the southern coast as it slopes down to the east (location 5-O). Ranal appears to be populated with a large number of women. Use it as a place to heal and save your game. The shop here sells some very useful equipment, including the Esper's Clothes. You should definitely save up for the clothes and purchase them as soon as you can. You can also learn more about boats, and about the Queen and King Swords. Directly above the room where you can save your game is a strange old woman. Speak with her continuously as she trains you to become an expert tongue twister. After speaking with her five times, she will reward you with the Tongue Twister Medal, a key item that you will need later on.

Underground Graveyard: The next stop is to pass through an underground graveyard, where you will be forced into a fight with a very powerful enemy, the Bone Man. Bone Man can destroy Babubabu in two or three hits, even when Babubabu is as high as level 7, and Bone Man can cast Ocarina and freeze Babubabu in place, making his destruction all the more likely. However, by utilizing Babubabu's special skill, Escape, you can easily avoid assured destruction. Be sure to purchase a Silver Key, and then head west from the Gyspy hut, and then cross a bridge to the north and continue until you see a cave (location 1-M). Enter the cave, and you'll find what appears to be an underground graveyard. You won't actually be attacked in this graveyard unless you step into three particular locations; the two locations in front of the treasure chests (both of which contain Holy), and the location in front of the door. If you step in any one of these locations, you will be attacked by a Bone Man. It is highly advised that you use Babubabu's Escape skill, because you will not be able to defeat Bone Man until you are a much higher level. Note that you will lose a quarter of your VP, so be prepared to heal. Unlock the door with the key and exit out from the graveyard to the island above.

Possara: This small village is a lot like Toinon and Massa, where you will find lots of huts, and a Sand Rat for sale. Purchase the Sand Rat for 150 Pearls. Then be sure to visit the hut near the top of the village. Inside, you'll find a man who provides you with the Key of Dagon, which is used to open the Mermaid's Temple. Once you have the key and the Sand Rat, you're all set. Use a Holy or cast the Teleport spell to be instantly transported back to the last location where you saved your game, which will save you the hassle of trying to run away from the Bone Man fight again.

The second meeting: When you are prepared, purchase a Silver Key and head to the Gypsy hut. From there, travel south until you see the cave in the middle of the forest along the west coast of the island. Step inside and unlock the door. Then cross through the passage, where you will be forced into a "Devil's formation" stage where you must battle with enemies on a grid. If you are higher than level 5, you shouldn't find it too difficult to complete. Once finished, exit out through the left stairs, and when you return to the map, you should see the Hero waiting for you. Speak with him, and choose to Meet him. The two will join together as one party. You will also temporarily gain use of a spell called "Mag-Magu" which costs both casters 10 magic points, and deals medium fire damage to one targeted enemy. At this time, if you wish, you may select Pass and transfer control over to the Hero, or you can continue to control the party as Babubabu.
