Kaiun Quiz (開運クイズ, literally Kaiun Kuizu) is a quiz arcade game that was released by Namco in 1999 only in Japan; it runs on the company's System 12 hardware, and as in all Namco's earlier quiz arcade titles, a full knowledge of the three Japanese writing systems (Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana) is essential if you wish to succeed for it. The players have to help a black-haired woman called Akira and a brown-haired man called Tsuyoshi seek their fortunes on an aeroplane journey across Japan, by using four buttons to answer the game's questions (which will be asked by more than ten different fortune-tellers over five areas) correctly - and each time they clear an area, their fortunes will be told. The events that occur in each area will also change based on Akira and Tsuyoshi's fortunes and may improve or worsen them further; furthermore, there is a quartet of gods called Kinsen-shin (金銭神), Ren'ai-shin (恋愛神), Shigoto-shin (仕事神) and Asobi-shin (遊び神) who shall show up during the game to give the players a chance at a bonus quiz (which can improve Akira and Tsuyoshi's fortunes depending on how well the players performed for it). Finally, if either player makes it to the end of the game, they will be treated to one of several ending sequences that is determined by their character's fortune - therefore, it is advisable to try for the best possible ones regardless of who you are helping.
