MK Stage 1.png

Main stage[edit]

Welcome to the game. Once Happy has dropped down to the ground (and Rappy with him in two-player mode), you will have to start walking to the right as a Mewky from the three previous Mappy games comes walking towards you; once you've kicked him away, you'll come to three boxes (and once you have kicked each of them to open them, three rings shall emerge from them). Two more Mewkies and a hedgehog will then come walking towards you - and once you have kicked each of them away, you shall come to three more boxes. Once you have kicked each of them to open them, a rollerskate and two more rings shall emerge from them; you will then have to jump onto a mushroom and a fallen tree trunk in turn as you come to four more boxes (the ninth and tenth of which are stacked on top of the seventh and eighth ones). Once you have kicked each of these to open them, two more rings and two crystals will emerge from them - and another hedgehog will then come walking towards you. Once you've kicked him away, you'll have to jump onto two clouds in turn and collect two coins as you come to three more boxes; once you've kicked each of them to open them, three more crystals shall emerge from them. Once you have dropped back down onto that fallen tree trunk, a trap door in it will spring open, catapulting Happy or Rappy backwards as a money bag flies out of it - and once you have collected the money bag you will have to retrace your steps back up to the second cloud and jump over a pit while slowing your descent to collect ten more coins. You'll then have to jump onto each of a tree's three branches in turn and jump over another pit while slowing your descent to collect ten more coins; once you have done so you will have to walk under a vertically-moving egg. You will then have to jump onto a second mushroom and fallen tree trunk in turn, and walk under another vertically-moving egg as a third hedgehog comes walking towards you - and once you have kicked him away you shall have to jump onto each of the two branches of another tree and a third cloud in turn to collect four more coins. You'll then have to drop back down onto the second fallen tree trunk, as you come to two more boxes; once you have kicked both of them and opened them, two more crystals will emerge from them. You will then have to jump onto a block and kick another one to your right to destroy it, as you come to two more boxes - and once you've kicked both of them to open them an eighth crystal and ring will emerge from them. You'll now have to jump up and kick a third block to your right to destroy it; once you do this, a P-Shirt will emerge from it (Happy or Rappy shall also start flashing at this point to indicate their invulnerability, but stop again once the effect has worn off). You'll then have to kick a fourth block to your right to destroy it - and once you've done so a Rally-X Special Flag will emerge from it. You will now have to drop back down to the ground as a fourth hedgehog and Mewky come walking towards you; once you've kicked both of these away, you will have to walk back to the left as you come to an eighteenth box (and once you've kicked it to open it, a ninth ring will emerge from it). You'll then have to jump up to collect five more coins - and once you have done it, you will have to jump back to the left onto a third mushroom and the second fallen tree trunk in turn, and jump onto a fourth cloud as you come to three more boxes. Once you kick each of these to open them, a tenth ring and two more crystals will emerge from them; you then have to jump onto the first two branches of a third tree and the third to fifth branches of a fourth one in turn, then jump over a third pit while slowing your descent, to collect fourteen more coins. Once you have landed you will have to jump onto three more clouds in turn as you come to two more boxes - and once you have kicked both of these to open them, two more rings shall emerge from them. You shall then have to drop back down to the ground, as you come to two more boxes; once you have kicked both of these to open them, another rollerskate and a thirteenth ring will emerge from them. You shall then have to run under a third vertically-moving egg - and once you do so, you must jump onto a fourth mushroom, a third fallen tree trunk and an eighth cloud in turn then collect four more coins. You will then have to drop back down onto that third fallen tree trunk and jump onto a ninth cloud, as you come to three more boxes; once you have kicked each of them to open them, three more rings will come out of them. Once you have dropped back down onto the third fallen tree trunk another trap door in it will spring open, again catapulting Happy or Rappy backwards as another money bag flies out of it - and once you have collected the second money bag, you shall have to drop back down to the ground and walk back to the left as you come to two more boxes. Once you've kicked both of them to open them, two final rings shall emerge from them; once either mouse has entered the mousehole in the aforementioned third fallen tree trunk the game will proceed to the slot machine (and in two-player mode, the machine has some different symbols).

Slot machine[edit]

MK Slot Machine.jpg

Note: If you spin a Maneki Neko, Nyamco head or Happy head on the slot machine in two-player mode, then win the bonus game, Nyamco shall ask whether you want to steal a part from (or trade one with) the other player or not; if you answer in the negative, you shall be given 20000 Yen instead.

Once the slot machine has appeared on the screen, the anthropomorphic magenta Nyamco at the bottom of it will speak the following Hiragana text (when a flashing inverted triangle appears at the bottom of his speech bubble, you will have to push A button to make him continue speaking each time):

1P Player:
きみはがんばったから (Kimi ha ganbattakara)
なにか ぷれぜんと するにゃあ (Nanika purezento suru nya a)
すろっとをまわして ぷれぜんと (Suro tto wo mawashite purezento)
をきめるにゃあ (Wo kimeru nya a)

2P Players:
よくきたにゃあふたりとも (Yoku kita nyāfutaritomo)
がんばったからなにか (Ganbattakara nanika)
ぷれぜんと するにゃあ (Purezento suru nya a)
さきにごーるしたほうが (Saki ni gōru shita hō ga)
すろっとをまわして ぷれぜんと (Suro tto wo mawashite purezento)
をきめるにゃあ (Wo kimeru nya a)

In Zynk Oxhyde's English translation, the above texts are translated to "Play the slots to pick your prize!", "Good luck!" (in one-player mode) and "Good luck to the both of you!" (in two-player mode) respectively; once the slot machine's reels begin spinning, you must press A button to stop them (and all three shall always stop on the same symbol). The symbol in question shall then be displayed in the window below the reels as Nyamco describes it (a coin is worth 100 Yen, while two Yen symbols are worth 50000 Yen, a question box is usually a new house part and a Rally-X flag with the number 2, 4 or 6 to its left is a specified amount of extra lives, but a skull forces you to spin again, and in later stages it costs you a house part) - and in two-player mode, a Maneki Neko (which was an item for 1986's Hopping Mappy) lets you steal a house part from the other player if you win, while the head of Nyamco lets you steal two from him, but the head of Happy shall let you swap one. Once you push A button to continue, Nyamco shall speak the following Hiragana text:

1P Player:
でもこれは ひとつしかないから (Demo kore ha hitotsu shika naikara)
つぎの げーむ に (Tsugi no gēmu ni)
かったら あげるにゃん (Kattara ageru nya n)

2P Players:
でもこれは ひとつしかないから (Demo kore ha hitotsu shika naikara)
つぎの... (Tsugi no...)
まちがいさがし げーむ に (Machigai-sa ga shigēmu ni)
かったほうに あげるにゃあ (Katta hō ni ageru nya a)

In the English translation, the above texts are translated to "Next, we will play a bonus round!", and "That is all. Next photo bonus game!" respectively; when next you press A button in two-player mode, the game shall go on to the "Spot the Difference" bonus game but in one-player mode Nyamco will say:

げーむは.... (Gēmu ha....)
はたあげ げーむ にゃんにゃん (Hata age-gēmu nya n nya n)
ミューターが とくいだにゃあ (Myūtā ga toku ida nya a)

In the English translation, the above text is translated to "I think Mewta is good at flag game."; once you have pressed A button to continue, the images on the slot machine's reels will change, to the heads of three anthropomorphic Mewkies (who have gained names since the earlier Mappy titles, "Mewta" being the "normal"-looking one displayed on a green background) on different coloured backgrounds, as Nyamco speaks the following Hiragana text:

それじゃあ げーむのあいてを (Sore jā-gēmuno aite wo)
えらぶにゃあ (Erabu nya a)

In the English translation, the above text is translated to "Your opponent will be"; once the slot machine's reels start spinning for a second time, you'll again have to press A button to stop them. Once all three have stopped on the same Mewky, his head shall be displayed in the window as Nyamco says:

ミューター/ミューキチ/ミューミュー が (Myūtā/Myūkichi/Myūmyū ga)
おあいてするにゃん (O aite suru nyan)
ふたりとも がんばるにゃあ (Futari tomo ganbaru nya a)

In the English translation the above text is translated to "Mewta/Mewchi/Mew-mew! Good luck to you both!" ("Mewchi" being the sinister-looking Mewky on a blue background, and "Mew-mew" being the happy-looking one on a red background); once you have pressed A button to continue, the game shall go on to the "Flags" bonus game, with the Mewky whose head you spun (however, this bonus game is impossible for people who cannot read Japanese).

Bonus games[edit]

Flags (1P)[edit]

MK Flags Bonus Game (1P).jpg

Once Happy and the Mewky whose head you spun have appeared on the screen (both of them holding a red flag and a white flag), Nyamco will say the following Hiragana text (when a flashing inverted triangle appears at the bottom of his speech bubble, you must again press A button to make him continue):

よくきたにゃあ (Yoku kita nya a)
これから はたあげ げーむを (Korekara hata age-gēmuwo)
はじめるにゃあ (Hajimeru nya a)
いくにゃ (Iku nya)

In the English translation, this is translated to "Ready!", "A - Red B - White", and "Go!"; Nyamco will then speak one of the following Hiragana/Kanji texts:

Command Translation
あか上げて (Aka agete) Raise red
しろげて (Shiro agete) Raise white
あか下げて (Aka sagete) Lower red
しろげて (Shiro sagete) Lower white
あか上げない (Aka agenai) Do not raise red (lower red)
しろげない (Shiro agenai) Do not raise white (lower white)
あか下げない (Aka sagenai) Do not lower red (raise red)
しろげない (Shiro sagenai) Do not lower white (raise white)
あか上げないで (Aka agenaide) Do not raise red (raise white)
しろげないで (Shiro agenaide) Do not raise white (raise red)
あか下げないで (Aka sagenaide) Do not lower red (lower white)
しろげないで (Shiro sagenaide) Do not lower white (lower red)

If you follow Nyamco's command and the Mewky does not, Nyamco will speak the Katakana/Hiragana text Happī no kachī (ハッピーの かちー), as Happy cheers (a small picture of Nyamco's head will also appear to his left), and the Mewky cries; however, if you respond to Nyamco's command wrongly, the Mewky will cheer as a small picture of Nyamco's head appears to his right and Nyamco speaks the Katakana/Hiragana text Myūtā/Myūkichi/Myūmyū no kachī (ミューター/ミューキチ/ミューミューの かちー) while Happy cries. However, if both you and the Mewky follow Nyamco's command Nyamco will speak the Hiragana text Madajonokuchida nya (まだ じょのくちだ にゃ) and give a new command - and once you beat the Mewky twice, Nyamco will hail Happy as the winner and give him the prize you spun on the slot machine earlier. Once you have pushed A button to continue, the game shall proceed to the shop.

Spot the Difference (2P)[edit]

MK Spot the Difference Bonus Game (2P).png

Once Happy and Rappy have both reappeared on the screen there shall be two pictures of either Princess Ki (from 1984's The Tower of Druaga) getting kidnapped by a Masker (from 1986's Rolling Thunder) with a picture of 1980's Pac-Man on his sweatshirt and a poster of a Pooka (from 1982's Dig Dug) on the wall, or Pac-Man pitching for the "Namco Stars" at the Korakuen Stadium (a reference to 1988's World Stadium) with Mappy at bat and a Masker as the other team's catcher above them; once a red hand appears on the second picture, Player 1 will have nine seconds to move it to a difference from the first picture with the D-Pad and press A button to confirm it, and once he or she does, a red circle will appear on it as a blue line appears in the square to Happy's left and the Hiragana text Shōzu ne (しょうずね) appears above both mice. A blue hand shall then appear in the second picture as the Hiragana text Ūntō (うーんとー) appears above both mice (and the timer is reset), so Player 2 now has nine seconds to move it to another difference from the first picture and confirm it - but if he or she tries the one Player 1 has already found, the Hiragana text Iyān (いやーん) will appear above both mice, as a red line appears in the square to Rappy's right (this will also happen to either player if the timer runs out). Once either player has found five differences, the Hiragana text Tsugi ha makenai wa (つぎはまけないわ) will appear above both mice; Nyamco will then hail the mouse who found five differences as the winner and give him the prize which was spun on the slot machine earlier. Once you have pushed A button to continue the game shall proceed to the shop.

Shop[edit]

MK Shop.jpg

Once the shop has appeared on the screen, the old bespectacled yellow elephant behind the counter shall speak the following Katakana/Hiragana text:

ハッピーさん いらっしゃい (Happī-san irasshai)
なにか ほしいものがあるかい (Nanika hoshī mono ga aru kai)

In the English translation, the above text translates to "Happy, will you be shopping?", and it will have two options, Hai (はい) and Īe (いいえ) below it; to answer "yes", you have to select the former, and once you have done so, your current amount of Yen will be displayed in the elephant's speech bubble with the Hiragana text Dore ni suru ka ne (どれにするかね) below it, as a red hand appears on the wall. The twelve parts and their prices are as follows:

Part Price
Sun 95000 Yen
Dandelion 15000 Yen
Daisy 36000 Yen
Fence 17000 Yen
Wall 99000 Yen
Glass 28000 Yen
Door 45000 Yen
Chimney 68000 Yen
Swing seat 38000 Yen
Swing 53000 Yen
Car body 75000 Yen
Car tires 60000 Yen

Once you have moved the hand to select a part you can afford with the D-Pad and pressed A button, the elephant shall tell you how much Yen it is and ask if you are wanting to buy it; if you answer in the affirmative, the elephant will speak the Hiragana text Dōmo arigatō (どうもありがとう) and the part's price on the wall will get replaced by the Hiragana text Urikire (うりきれ), but if you should spin a skull on the slot machine in a later stage and lose a part, its price will have been returned to the wall on your next visit if you did not win that part back in a question box. The elephant will then speak the Hiragana text of Hoka ni hoshī mono ga aru kai (ほかに ほしいものが あるかい), with the two options Hai (はい) and Īe (いいえ) beneath it - and for the English translation, this text is translated to "Anything else?". If you answer Hai (はい) you will have to repeat the process to buy another part you can still afford; however, if you answer Īe (いいえ), the elephant will speak the Hiragana text Mata kite okureyo (またきておくれよ), and for two-player mode he will now ask Rappy if he will be shopping. If Player 2 answers in the affirmative, a blue hand shall appear on the wall, so he or she shall now have to select an affordable part and buy it - and once Rappy has finished shopping, the screen will cut to a shot of the anthropomorphic Happy (and Rappy in two-player mode) looking at pictures of their partially-built houses. The game will now return to the overworld map; once you have pushed right on the D-Pad in one-player mode, Happy will proceed to Stage 2, but in two-player mode you can either push up on the D-Pad to proceed to "Stage 2A" or right to proceed to "Stage 2B".
