Mappy Kids title screen.jpg

On the title screen, press Select button to move the 1983-style Nyamco cursor to the mode you wish to play and Start button to begin (you can also press up and down on the D-Pad, then A button). After you select a mode, one of two messages from Mappy himself will be displayed based on which mode you selected:

1P Player:
(Happī yo takumashī nezumi ni)
(Natta kachū.)
(Otōsan ha omae ni kawaī)
(O yome-san wo shōkaisuruchū)
(Rippana o uchi wo tatete)
(Otōsan no tokoro he kite kudasai)
(So to ha, kiken ga ippainanode)
(Kureguremo ki wo tsukeru yō ni)
(Aisuru Happī he Mappī)

In 2013, an English translation of the game was released by Zynk Oxhyde, which translates the above text to "Dear Happy, Doing well, son? I know this is sudden, but I'd like to introduce you to your bride. Be careful on the way, okay? Your Dad, Mappy" (Mappy Jr from Mappy-Land was not in the game).

2P Players:
(Happī to Rappī futari tomo)
(Genki ni kura shite iru kachū.)
(Futari ni kawaī o yome-san wo)
(Shōkaisuruchū.)
(Rippana o uchi wo tatete nakayoku)
(Otōsan no tokoro he kite kudasai)
(So to ha, kiken ga ippainanode)
(Kikku no wa zawosazukemachū.)
(Aisuru musuko-tachi he Mappī)

The English translation translates the above text to "Dear Happy and Rappy, How are you my boys? I'd like you two to meet a lovely bride. Whoever has the most wealth will win her hand in marriage. May the best mouse win! Your Dad, Mappy"; once you press Start button again the game will proceed to your chosen mode's Super Mario Bros. 3-style overworld map. The map of the one-player mode has sixteen stages on it, but you will only have to play fifteen of them (when Happy gets to the junction you'll have to press up or left on the D-Pad to choose Stage 14A or 14B) - however, the map of the two-player mode has nine stages and you will only have to play five of them (each time Happy, who indicates both his own and Rappy's position, gets to one of the junctions you will have to push up or right on the D-Pad to choose Stages 2A, 3A and 4A, Stages 2B, 3B and 4A, or Stages 3C and 4B). Mappy himself will also be waiting at the end of both maps (Stage 15 in one-player mode, and Stage 5 in two-player mode); once you've pressed right on the D-Pad in either mode to proceed to Stage 1, it shall begin (for two-player mode, the screen's top half focuses on Happy, while its bottom half focuses on Rappy). In one-player mode Happy will begin the game with three lives - however, in two-player mode, both he and Rappy will begin the game with seven lives, and if one of the players loses all their lives in two-player mode, the game will be over for both players, even if the other player did not lose a single life.
