Stardust Fields is the first non-tutorial area of the game. It is divided into ten rooms, and it is also the place where you learn your first Bros. techniques. Warp Pipe 1 is located here, as well as the Border Jump minigame.

Room 1[edit]

Point of no return
Once you leave the Mushroom Kingdom side of Stardust Fields, you can't return. Luckily, there is nothing important in the first room.

You land here after the Koopa Cruiser crashes. There are no enemies, but several of Bowser's baddies lie on the ground, injured. There is also a save journal. Proceed to your left, where the Border Jump building is located. A guide for Border Jump can be found here.

Room 2[edit]

After completing Border Jump, you'll be given a Beanbean Map. Go left and enter the Warp Pipe, so that you can come back to this area later. Then, exit to the south.

Room 3[edit]

Follow the path, jumping over the electric barbs. There are two blocks with Mushrooms along the way. It's another simple room.

Room 4 (first time)[edit]

New Enemy
Jump when the Fighter Fly gets this close to counterattack

Fighter Fly

  • HP: 5 (10)[1]
  • Fly-like creatures that have pretty basic attack patterns. Notice as they approach and time your jump to avoid or counter their attack

Right now, there's not much you can do in this room. Just go south, fighting the Fighter Flies for easy experience. Exit to the southwest.

Room 5 (first time)[edit]

There is a Save Journal in this room. Go up the stairs and walk over to the cannon, where Bowser is stuck. Tolstar appears and says he'll free Bowser for all of your coins. However, even after giving him all your coins, he says he'll need you to get 100 more coins. Then, he makes a bridge appear so that you can access the rest of Stardust Fields. Cross the bridge.

Room 6 (first time)[edit]

Just exit the room to the North.

Room 4 (second time)[edit]

Follow the path and fight all the Fighter Flies you encounter, as defeating them will give you coins. There's also a Bros. Block and a ? Block with a coin. Exit to the northeast.

Room 7[edit]

New Enemy
Jump when the Bullet Bill is about this far from Mario or Luigi.

Bill Blaster

  • HP: 5 (16)[1]
  • Their only attack is to shoot a Bullet Bill. Can be dodged by jumping

Fight enemies and hit ? Blocks in this large room. With the introduction of Bill Blasters, you might have to use Mushrooms to heal the Mario Bros. since the new enemies can deal a lot of damage. There is also a Bros. Block in this room which can be accessed if you use the Bike Pads in the northeast. Exit to the southeast.

Room 8 (Area 64)[edit]

Hit the ? Block for a Syrup, then walk onto the wooden star. The Starshade Bros. appear and teach the Mario Bros. two new techniques: Spin Jump and High Jump. After the tutorial, they challenge you to reach a flag high up in the northwest corner. High Jump onto some barrels, then go farther east and High Jump onto a platform. Spin Jump across the gap to another platform and High Jump onto a platform with a ? Block. Hit the ? Block for a Mushroom, then Spin Jump across the gap to the flag. Go left and hit another ? Block for another Syrup, then exit south.

Room 9[edit]

This room has a Save Journal. Defeat the Fighter Flies and collect the ? Blocks. Most have coins, but one of them has a Syrup in it. To get to the next room, you need to High Jump onto the westernmost platform. There's a Bros. Block if you continue using High Jump on the nearby barrels. Exit to the west.

Room 10[edit]

This is a very small room that connects Room 9 to Room 6. Here, the Starshade Bros. teach you how to use the first two Bros. Attacks, Splash Bros. and Bounce Bros. After the lesson, continue going west

Room 6 (second time)[edit]

This is one of the best rooms for getting coins. There are several Fighter Flies, a ? Block with coins and a Bros. Block. Upon getting everything, exit to the northwest.

Room 5 (second time)[edit]

If you do not have 100 coins, you'll want to go to Room 4, where some new ? Blocks are available now that you have High Jump. Otherwise, walk up to the cannon and give Tolstar 100 coins. Tolstar will take the coins, but then he'll refuse to help Bowser and will challenge you to a battle.

Boss: Tolstar[edit]

Tolstar is going to attack Luigi
  • 50 HP
  • Two attacks
    • He throws a spiked ball. If he throws with his left hand, he'll attack Luigi, and if he throws with his right hand, he'll attack Mario. Jump to dodge.
    • He says "Nyeeeeck!" and throws a spiked ball. In this case, don't jump, as the ball will bounce over your character.

To beat Tolstar, keep using Splash Bros. and Bounce Bros. If you can, set the difficulty level for each attack to 3; you'll do much more damage this way. If you run out of BP, use a Syrup. Don't be afraid to use items, and you may want to make Mario the primary attacker, since he does more damage than Luigi. After Tolstar loses most of his health, he'll start throwing twice as many spiked balls. The reward for beating him is all the coins you paid him, 30 experience, and a 1-Up Mushroom.

After the battle, Sergeant Starshade, annoyed by Bowser's complaining, launches him out of the cannon. Exit west, where there is a Save Journal, then go north into a cave.

Cave[edit]

There are two Mushroom blocks in this very short area. You need to Spin Jump to get one, while the other is on the path. Exit to the southwest and you will have reached Hoohoo Mountain.

Item locations[edit]

Most of these items were in plain sight. However, all 11 items in the Stardust Fields area are listed here for convenience.
