Thunderbolt[edit]

Thunderbolts are rare items only obtained by lower-ranking drivers. When activated, they shrink everyone on the track that are not using a star or a Boo. A shrunk driver loses speed and the ability to use mushrooms. When the driver who activated this item crashes into a shrunk driver, the shrunk driver spins out. After a set amount of time, or if the shrunk drivers go into a pit, the shrunk drivers revert to normal size and regain their speed and weight.

Coins[edit]

Coins are different from items. There are 50 scattered among each track. They help your speed and stability ranking as you collect them. At the start of a race, you get 5, 3 if in the top 4, and 2 for first place. if you have only one, a warning goes off. If you have absolutely no coins, the warning will become a klaxon and you will spin out every time you hit a racer. Each time you bump or get bumped by a racer, you lose a coin. Each time you hit an item ,get hit with an item, or get hit while spinning out, you'll lose five coins. If you have all fifty coins at the end of a race plus the ones you initially started with, it is considered a ''perfect coin pick-up.''
