Mega Blast start screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet of Taito Corporation's 1989 horizontal scrolling shooter arcade game Mega Blast, it will proceed to the start screen shown above; if the "Upright Controls" option is set to "Single" the players must take turns at the controls (in a two-player game, Player 2's Mega Blast is still depicted as blue), and shall get sent back to the most recent checkpoint in the current round when they are killed. However, if it is set to "Dual", one player may play alone on either side of the cabinet (1P or 2P) or both players may play simultaneously on both sides of it - and when they are killed, they will immediately fly back into view from that left side of the screen (unless, of course, they were down to their last life). Therefore, if you are using MAME to play this game, you may wish to set the "Upright Controls" option to "Dual" so that you do not have to keep replaying the same part of a particular round over and over again simply because you cannot pass it without getting hit by an enemy or their shots (or crashing into a wall); also, if the game happens to be set up this way, a second player may join in a game already in progress on the inactive side of the cabinet at any time.
