To save time on the track, there is a slight shortcut you can take - drive on the yellow grass to keep full speed, but avoid the green grass.

After exiting the tunnel, there is an alcove visible behind you, on the left side of the tunnel. To get it, make a sharp left turn to collect it. Restart the track once you have it, as you will lose valuable time that would otherwise let you win the race.
