Mr. Driller[edit]

Mr. Driller, real name Susumu Hori, is the eponymous protagonist of the game; when coloured blocks started emerging from the ground in the city of Downtown, none of its residents knew what to do, so they called him in to solve the problem with his jack-hammer (a weapon his father, Taizo, had previously used for his second game in 1985). As mentioned on the main page, players must choose one of two different challenges (2500ft for beginners and 5000ft for experts) and drill through as many coloured blocks as they can (while avoiding the "X-Blocks", as they will drain 20% of Mr. Driller's air if hit, but he can regain it by collecting air capsules) - and when four or more X-Blocks are in contact with each other, they will disappear and leave a blue creature (called a "Chisokojin") behind, who can be picked up for 765 extra points. In addition to being susceptible to running out of air, Mr. Driller can also die if he is crushed by a falling block; if this should happen, he shall be resurrected back at the last 100m mark he passed (if he still has lives remaining, because if he does not, the game will be over). He shall also receive 30000 points for every life he still has remaining when he reaches his goal (and is met by a party of Chisokojins), and a time bonus which is determined by how long it took you to get there - and because of the fact that this game is so short it should not take you more than five (on 2500ft mode) or ten (on 5000ft mode) minutes to get there (that is, of course, if you can).
