Part 1[edit]

MG Stage 1-1.png
  • The first part of this stage will see Ronin running towards Goemon from both sides of the screen; there is also a Fan, two Peaches, a Bell, a Maneki Neko, and an Otafuku Mask for him to pick up and throw at them. Towards the midpoint, the half-invisible Yellow Ninja at the top of the screen (who will always be there, and is too high up to be killed) will throw a Sai blade down at Goemon - and if you strike the location of the Japanese woman's head on the above map (before the second Otafuku Mask) to reveal it, you'll gain 6000 points. This is the first of eleven hidden objects in the game.

Part 2[edit]

  • The second part of the stage will see both Ronin and Samurai running towards Goemon from both sides of the screen; there's also two more Otafuku Masks, a Tea Gourd, a third Peach, an Omamori, and another Bell for him to pick up and throw at them. A Blue Ronin on a surfboard will also always ride a wave into view from the screen's right side when you come up to the first open pool of water, and if you strike the location of the conch shell on the above map to reveal it (after the third tanuki statue) you'll receive 4000 points - and once you have reached the boss area, the music will change. If you're quick enough, it is also possible for Goemon to jump up to one of the highest platforms, and strike the full moon with his Kiseru as it passes, causing it to "shatter" into a crescent for 4000 more points; however, by the time the moon is too far to Goemon's right, this shall become impossible.

When the boss of the stage (a green oni) appears in front of Goemon, he will attack by throwing lightning bolts at him; he takes one hit to kill for 1600 points, but you may only defeat him using the five regenerative lotuses in the area (you will also have to aim them at his feet, as he will block them with his shield if you aim them anywhere else). He will also temporarily stun Goemon if he touches him, and the effect could last just long enough for him to throw a lightning bolt at him and kill him - but once you have defeated him (or survived long enough to make him disappear), you can proceed to the village (but if Goemon still has a lotus mounted on his head on reaching the village, it shall automatically disappear as he distributes the gold over it, causes all the lights in its houses to turn on as he passes them, and proceeds onto the second stage). The second stage is also the first one to feature a Golden Mallet, which will make Goemon invulnerable for a short period of time when collected.
