To reach the jungle, you must take the southern-most path from the ruins. A set of platforms will drop down to the screen below, and lead you to the jungle. Be careful not to fall through the bottom of the lower screen, or any pockets of water, as that will result in death. The Jungle contains even more difficult to locate exits that are accessed by pushing up into the screen. Keep your eye open for blank spaces in the background and investigate them.

Obtaining the map[edit]

  1. Enter the Jungle from the south exit of the ruins.
  2. Head to the right, look for the third down arrow opportunity, and push down.
  3. Head to the building that you see to the left and enter it to collect the map.

  • You can obtain a Barrier from the Map house after you receive the Map.
  • You can obtain a Barrier from the Wide Beam Sword house after you receive the Wide Beam Sword.
  • You can obtain a Barrier from the Spike house after you receive the Spike shoes.

Collecting items[edit]

  • After you collect the map, reenter the home to collect a Barrier. Then head to the left. Pass a small island of grass, and when the ground becomes solid again, push up at the blank space in the background. Then walk to the right and enter the house to collect the Wide Beam Sword. (You can reenter this house to collect a Barrier as well.)
  • From there, exit the house and run all the way to the right. When you enter the next scene, watch out for the hopping skeleton that patrols the area. Head to the left, and enter the house as many times as you need to collect a Drink until your health is restored. The continue to the left. In the new area, walk a short distance to the left and enter the hut you find. Accept the man's request for the Flower and he will give you the second Jar in return.
  • Now run all the way to the right. The last house you pass is actually the map house, so you can return inside to collect a Barrier again. When you reach the new section, walk a very short distance to the left, and push up. Run all the way to the right of this section. You will be in a very cliff-like region. Jump over the water to the right and continue until you find a house. Enter the house to collect the very valuable Shield. Now the damage you take will be reduced in half.
  • Start running back to the left. After you leave the cliff region and return to the jungle, you will pass a stone face. Skip the first down arrow opportunity that you encounter after stone face, and push down on the second. Run to the left and jump over the large creature that tends to pass through this section. Enter the house to collect the Valis Boots. Activating these will enable you to jump higher.
  • Return to the right, and run to the left when you are back in the previous section. You will pass two down arrows. Immediately following the second one, there is a large blank space in the background. Push up here to discover the waterfall. Here you can restore your health and fill up any empty Jars that you have.
  • Leave the waterfall and continue running left. You will eventually pass a house. After the house, there is a down arrow that you should take. In the new region, run to the left. Eventually, you will reach a house. Just before the house (to the right of it), push up in the blank space. Now run to the right. In this region, not only will you find the Spike shoes, but you can also max out your inventory on bombs and boomerangs.

Finding the boss[edit]

Assuming you were following along with the item collection walkthrough above, turn around after you collect the Spike shoes. When you're back by the house, return to the right. On your way, you passed a down arrow. Take it this time, and run to the right. The third door that you come to is the gate to the boss' lair. It will not open unless you have first obtained the Wide Beam Sword.

If you need health before you face the boss, pass the gate, and continue running until you find a fourth door. Beyond the door is a down arrow. Push down here and run to the left. The last (second) building you encounter here has the Drink. Collect as many as you need and return to the gate to face the boss.

Fighting the boss[edit]

This boss is considerably tough. It is a giant snake head that rises out of the ground spewing projectiles in every direction. After it has risen out of the ground, it slowly slowly sinks back to the bottom. While it stays in one place the first time, it has a tendency to move across the screen from time to time. Once it has chosen a direction, it will not reverse its course until the next time it rises out of the ground. It's difficult to predict which direction it will move in. In general, you should not stay in the middle of the screen, but it may still squeeze you against the sides.

To defeat it, you will need to make use of the Wide Beam Sword. It is also highly recommended that you have the Shield, and bring at least two full Jars into this fight. This boss will undoubtedly drain a good portion of your health, so you will need the Jars to refuel Yuko before she dies. If you are having a terribly difficult time, you may wish to skip this fight until you have first collected the Laser Sword from the Ice World, as there is nothing that prevents you from doing so. Having the Laser Sword will decrease the length of this fight. Keep following behind the boss and strike his head with sword projectiles as quickly as possible until it is defeated. Then collect the Phantasm Jewelry that falls from the sky. Don't forget to refill any Jars that you depleted by visiting the Waterfall.
