Your objective is to prevent pirates from entering your ship. You need to use the arrow keys to walk to the given pirate and swing your sword with to knock them off. You will advance to the next level once you reach a set amount of points.
On the second level, you will gain access to buckets of water and cannonballs. Press to pickup or use the object. At this stage, it can be used on the pirates (which is worth more points than swinging the sword).
On the third level, you are introduced to the cannons. To load them, take a cannon ball and put it in the cannon. It will fire and damage the enemy ship. While cannons allow you to collect points more quickly, they obstruct your movement.
Your first priority is to prevent pirates from entering your ship, as you will lose one of your only five lives. If the pirates are coming too quickly for you to handle the cannons, then forget them; the only loss of losing the cannons is a slower growth rate.
