New Hyper Man title screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet of SemiCom's 1997 compilation arcade game XESS: The New Revolution, and pressed either Start Button, it will proceed to the game selection screen (which initially starts on New Hyper Man); once you have pressed any of the three buttons to confirm your choice, it will proceed to the title screen shown above which explains that the 8-way joystick is used to direct your Pac-Man around the maze (but if you started the game as Player 2, your Pac-Man shall be the pink one as opposed to the original yellow one shown in the image), the first button is used to spit lasers at the enemies (and if used in conjunction with the joystick, continue spitting them in that direction), and the second button is used to move at a faster speed (however, the third one does not function for both unofficial Pac-Man titles in this compilation, only Cookie & Bibi) before starting (it will also start when any button is pressed). Remember that if you let go of the joystick your Pac-Man will stop moving - and if you take too long after killing a particular enemy, he will be resurrected in a red colour palette, indicating a faster speed (which can make it harder to clear a stage before the timer runs out, and given that both Pac-Mans only start out with three lives, a setting which cannot be changed, it is very difficult to make it all the way to the end in one coin). However, even though this game has a scoring system, it doesn't have a high-score table, so even if you finish it, you can't enter your initials.
