Normal Strategy[edit]

Jump across the cog, then hit the ? Block for a Super Mushroom or Ice Flower. Cross another cog, then jump on one of the spokes on the next cog and ride it up. Then jump onto a high platform and collect the coins on it. Drop down onto the cog, then jump into the Star Coin, landing on the platform with a Dry Bones. Jump into the next set of cogs, staying in the indentation to avoid being crushed. Continue, hitting the ? Block to release a Super Mushroom or Ice Flower. Jump back on to the upper cog, and ride it reach the first bonus room. Jump across the next group of cogs and activate the midway flag. Avoid the Thwomps by waiting to move until they've already attempted to squash you and are returning upwards. When you get to the Giant Thwomp, let it smash the blocks before you retrieve the second Star Coin. Duck and wait for it to smash again before exiting that area. Let the next Giant Thwomp smash the blocks, then take the lower path. Wait for the third Thwomp to come down before jumping up to the next part of the path. Activate the Red Coin Ring, and do not stop running as you collect the coins. Cross the cog and carefully jump onto the edge of the platform, out of the range of the Thwomp. Use the same method for the next section, staying out of the lava, and continue on to the platform with a Dry Bones on it. Take your time as you cross the next set of cogs, and make sure you stay in an indentation when you reach the final cog. Just before it reaches the lava, run off it and enter the Warp Pipe leading to the second bonus room. Upon returning, hit a Hidden Block between two coins to get a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower. Enter the door.

Boss Battle[edit]

The battle against Larry Koopa

Larry Koopa has the same attacks as in World 1-Fortress, but this time, Kamek manipulates the stage so that different parts shift up and down at different intervals. This can be used to your advantage, as he can get somewhat stuck in a lower area while using his shell spin attack. He is defeated after being jumped on three times

Bonus Rooms[edit]

The cog leading to the first bonus room
The first bonus room

The first bonus room is reachable by riding on a cog (just before or after a yellow Warp Pipe) to the top. In it are many coins and blocks which contain Propeller Suits and 1-Up Mushrooms. The easiest way to collect the coins and 1-Up Mushrooms is to use a Propeller Suit. Upon leaving, you are returned slightly farther along in the main path.

The Warp Pipe leading to the second bonus room
The second bonus room

The second bonus room is reachable by entering a Warp Pipe right before the final door. In it are several coins on the lava, a Star Coin caged in by breakable blocks and walls, and a P-Switch. Hit the P-Switch, then run across the path on top of the lava. Wall jump up to the Star Coin, then quickly return to the yellow Warp Pipe. You will be returned to a Warp Pipe just before the door.

Star Coins[edit]

The first Star Coin
  • Star Coin #1: Towards the beginning, it hovers between a four-spoked cog and a platform with a Dry Bones on it.
The second Star Coin
  • Star Coin #2: Just after the midway flag, a Giant Thwomp breaks the blocks around it. Move quickly to avoid being crushed.
The third Star Coin
  • Star Coin #3: At the final cog, jump at the right time to go down the green pipe. Once down, hit the P switch and quickly run across the bricks, then wall jump to the star coin.
