Area 1[edit]

Phelios Stage 5 Area 1.png

Once that enchanted mirror has faded out, and Pegasus has started to propel Apollo forward yet again, the three-script Japanese text of Kōri no sekai wo eien ni urotsui tsuzukeru giga...Dyupon no somuita yūsha no ken to tate ga Antaiosu no honō ni tokasa re. & Kōri no sekai ni mayoikomi, shikabane to tomoni hiete katamari to natta giga...Giga ni furete ha ikenai wa! Kiwotsukete, Aporō! 気をつけて、アポロー!), will appear at the bottom of the screen as forty Debiru come zigzagging down towards him from the top of the screen while firing projectiles at him; once you've fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them to kill them, two Item Flies will come flying down towards you on the left side of the screen. Once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at these to kill them, they will leave two "S" powerups behind and announce their names in Japanese from the C140 - and once you have collected these two, two of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridges on the left and right sides of the screen, then throw their swords at you. Once you have fired off a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of these, to knock them off the bridges, two Black Tekyuu will come rolling towards you from the left and right sides of the screen; once you have fired enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of these two to destroy them, two more Black Tekyuu will come rolling down towards you, from the top of the screen. Once you have fired enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of them to destroy them, two more of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridges on the left and right sides of the screen, and throw their swords at you - and once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of these two to knock them off the bridges, two more Black Tekyuu will come rolling towards you, from the left and right sides of the screen. Once you've fired enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at both of these two to destroy them, four more of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridge in the centre of the screen and throw their swords at you; once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them, to knock them off the bridge, four more Black Tekyuu will come rolling towards you from the right side of the screen. Once you've fired enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them, to destroy them, two more of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridges on the left and right sides of the screen, and throw their swords at you - and once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and all three beams adjacent to it at both of them to knock them off the bridges, two more Black Tekyuu will come rolling towards you from the left and right sides of the screen. Once you've fired enough charged shots from your sword and those three beams adjacent to it at both of these to destroy them, four more of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridge in the centre of the screen and throw their swords at you; once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them to knock them off the bridge, four more Black Tekyuu will come rolling towards you from the left side of the screen. Once you have fired enough charged shots from both your sword and all three beams adjacent to it at each of these four to destroy them, twenty-four more Debiru will come zigzagging down towards you from the top of the screen (while firing projectiles at you); once you've fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them to kill them, three more Item Flies will come flying down towards you on the left side of the screen. Once you have fired a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at these, to kill them, they'll leave two more "S" powerups and an "O" powerup behind, then announce their names in Japanese from the C140 - and once you have collected them, four more of Scylla's Henchmen will walk onto the bridge in the centre of the screen and throw their swords at you. Once you fire one charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of them to knock them off the bridge, you'll come to an Enormous Red Tekyuu that is rolling forward in its place on the right side of the screen, as two more Black Tekyuu come rolling towards it, from that left side of the screen; unless you can fire enough charged shots at both of the Black Tekyuu to destroy them before they hit the Enormous Red Tekyuu it will self-destruct and explode into eight pieces of shrapnel which cannot be destroyed and must be avoided. A nineteenth Black Tekyuu will then come rolling towards you from the right side of the screen at the bottom, as two more Enormous Red Tekyuu come rolling towards each other from the left and right sides of the screen at the top - and, once you fire enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at that Black Tekyuu to destroy it, both of the Enormous Red Tekyuu will self-destruct and explode into eight indestructible pieces of shrapnel. Six more pairs of Enormous Red Tekyuu will then come rolling towards each other from the left and right sides of the screen (one pair at a time) as twenty-four more Debiru come zigzagging down towards you from the top of the screen while firing projectiles at you; as you are firing off more charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at each of the Debiru to kill them all six of the Enormous Red Tekyuu will self-destruct, and explode into eight indestructible pieces of shrapnel. The three-script Japanese text Sukyura no shinden (スキュラの神殿) will then appear at the bottom of the screen, as Apollo descends down to and enters that temple of Scylla (which looks like a blue version of Medusa's and Siren's, and is the basis for the second area) - and the song that you had been hearing from that Yamaha YM-2151 will also fade out at this point.

Once Apollo has reappeared inside the temple, and its theme starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, two more Item Flies will come flying down towards him on the left side of the screen; once you have fired off a charged shot from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at them to kill them, they will leave two more "S" powerups behind, then announce their names in Japanese from that C140. Once you've collected these, six more Enormous Red Tekyuu will come falling down towards you from the top of the screen - and once you have moved out of their way, the three-script Japanese text Kōri no sekai wo ayatsuru no ha Sukyura. Suishō ni tojikome rarete iru wa. (氷の世界を操るのはスキュラ. 水晶に閉じ込められているわ.) will appear at the bottom of the screen, as you come up to a barrier of twenty red crystals that are rotating in an anticlockwise direction. The "boss" theme will then begin to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for a fifth time, as Scylla (who looks somewhat like a Crystal Brain from Namco's own Bakutotsu Kijūtei) materializes in the centre of the barrier and causes four walls of spikes to come down on all four screen sides; one spike on each wall will loosen itself from the others, then fly towards Apollo in the direction that it is facing, and you can either move out of their way or fire a charged shot at them to destroy them for extra points. Scylla will then cause the four walls to go back up again for a short period of time - but each time she decides to bring them down again, a different spike on each wall will loosen itself then fly towards Apollo in the direction that it is facing, until he has either dodged or destroyed them all. Once you have fired out enough charged shots from your sword and the three beams adjacent to it at Scylla to defeat her, she will explode and the four remaining spike walls upon each side of the screen will disappear as the three-script Japanese text Aporō ha, Sukyura wo taoshita. (アポローは、スキュラを倒した.) appears at the bottom of the screen; Apollo will then proceed to that enchanted mirror at the back of Scylla's temple, as Typhon's theme once again starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151. Once it fades in, Typhon will speak the three-script Japanese text of Kono watashi kara nige rareru to omotte iru no ka? Orokamono-me! (この私から逃げられると思っているのか? 愚か者め!) to Apollo from the C140 - and once it has faded back out again the game will segue into the sixth stage, which is also comprised of two areas. Also, if Apollo flies up into Scylla, the impact will kill him instantly regardless of how many life-hearts he has.

Note: If Apollo is too close to Scylla's body when it explodes he shall lose a life-heart if he gets caught in the blast; if it was his last one, the blast shall kill him, but the game will still proceed to the enchanted mirror at the back of the temple as if he was still alive and resurrect him at the start of the sixth, and penultimate, stage (unless the life that he lost was his last one, in which case it will, for the fifth time, proceed to the continue screen after the enchanted mirror has faded out). As in Splatterhouse, if you want to continue playing after losing your last life, you shall have to select "YES" within ten seconds of inserting another coin, and the sixth stage is also the last where resurrection at the start of the following one can happen, as the seventh one is the last.
