Area 1 (Stage 10)[edit]

Once Pistol Daimyo has reappeared on the screen, he will start moving forward for the tenth time, as eight Geta come down into view from the top of the screen, and fly towards him once they've reached his altitude; once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of these to kill them, two Bacura will come tumbling towards you at the top and bottom of the screen. Once you have gone between these (if you fire a cannonball at them, they will tumble towards you faster) an Enormous Foot will come down into view from the top of the screen - and once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the top of the screen again, a Black Kaeru will come bouncing towards you at the bottom of the screen. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at him to kill him, you will come to three blue vases; once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of these to break them open, they will leave three Hanafuda cards behind. Once you've collected them an eighth Kusudama will drop down from the top of the screen - and once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open before it goes back up off the top of the screen again, it will leave a suit of metal (or wooden if you were unlucky enough to be hit twice) armour behind. Once you've put it on if you were unlucky enough to get hit, an Enormous Hand will come up into view from the bottom of the screen; once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the bottom of the screen again, two Yuurei (in jars) will fly into view from the right side of the screen. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at both of these to kill them (if you can't do this in time, the jars will break open and the free Yuurei will fly directly towards you), four more Geta will come down into view from the top of the screen and fly towards you once they have reached your altitude - and once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of these, to kill them, another Enormous Hand will come up into view from the bottom of the screen. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the bottom of the screen again, another Enormous Foot will come down into view from the top of the screen; once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the top of the screen again, a third Enormous Hand will come up into view from the bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the bottom of the screen again, the game's first boss theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for what is the fifth time as Shishimai walks into view from the right side of the screen then speaks the Hiragana text of Wanwan wanwanwanwan wanwan! (わんわんっ わんわんわんわん わんわんっ!) to Pistol Daimyo (his Waru meter, which is comprised of three Waru, will also appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen at this point) - and he will now start walking towards you, so you should move back to the left side of the screen at this point, as that is the only place where he cannot reach you. Once you have fired forty-eight small cannonballs, six medium cannonballs or three large cannonballs at his body (if they hit his heads, they will fly off his body and try to attack you before returning to their original positions), his tail will explode and he will speak the explosive Hiragana text Kya un (きゃうん) twice, then Kya ū un! (きゃうううんっ!) to Pistol Daimyo; the "stage clear" theme will then be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for a tenth time as his now-tailless body retreats back off the right side of the screen (if one or both of his heads were off the body on defeat, they will soon follow after it). Pistol Daimyo will now fly off the right side of the screen himself as the view returns to the overworld map, the first lantern on the bottom row (which represented this stage) changes colour from yellow to red, and the fan which indicates Pistol Daimyo's current position moves forward to and unfolds over the second lantern on the bottom row - which represents the eleventh stage. The fourth boss theme that you'll hear from the Yamaha YM-2151 on Stage 11 is also unique to it.

Area 2 (Stage 11)[edit]

Once Pistol Daimyo has reappeared on the screen, he will start moving forward for the eleventh time, as three Yellow Nekodori come flying towards him at the top of, in the centre of, and at the bottom of the screen; once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of these, to kill them, eight Yuurei (in jars) will come flying towards you. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of them to kill them (if you cannot do it in time, the jars will break open and the free Yuurei will fly directly towards you), you'll come to a Blue Kanameishi, that is circling around in a clockwise direction at the bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a large cannonball or two medium ones at it to kill it, you will come to another Blue Kanameishi that is circling around a blue vase in a clockwise direction at the top of the screen - and once you've fired a large cannonball (or two medium ones) at it to kill it you will have to fire a medium cannonball at the blue vase to break it open. Once you've done so it will leave a Hanafuda card behind; once you have collected it, it will be displayed in the top-right corner of the screen next to the first one. You'll now come to a third Blue Kanameishi that's circling around another blue vase in a clockwise direction at the bottom of the screen - and once you've fired a large cannonball or two medium ones at it to kill it, you'll have to fire a medium cannonball at the blue vase to break it open. Once you have done so it will leave another Hanafuda card behind - and once you have collected it, a ninth Kusudama will drop down from the top of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open before it goes back up off the top of the screen again, it will leave a suit of metal (or wooden, if you had taken two hits), armour behind; once you have put it on if you had taken a hit, you will come to a fourth Blue Kanameishi, that is circling around a third blue vase in a clockwise direction at the top of that screen. Once you've fired a large cannonball or two medium ones at it to kill it, you will have to fire a medium cannonball at the blue vase, to break it open - and once you've done so, it will leave a third Hanafuda card behind. Once you have collected it, it will be displayed in the top-right corner of the screen; you will then come to a fifth Blue Kanameishi that is circling round a fourth blue vase in a clockwise direction at the bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a large cannonball or two medium ones at it to kill it, you will have to fire a medium cannonball at the blue vase to break it open - and once you have done so it will leave a fourth Hanafuda card behind. Once you've collected it, it will be displayed in the top-right corner of the screen next to the first one; you'll then come to a sixth Blue Kanameishi that's circling around a fifth blue vase in a clockwise direction at the top of the screen. Once you have fired a large cannonball (or two medium ones) at it to kill it you'll have to fire a medium cannonball at the blue vase to break it open - and once you've done so, it'll leave a fifth Hanafuda card behind. Once you have collected it, a tenth Kusudama will drop down from the top of the screen; once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open before it goes back up off that top of the screen again, it will leave a second suit of metal (or wooden, if you were again unlucky enough to get hit twice), armour behind. Once you have put it on if you were unlucky enough to get hit, six Purple Nekodori will come flying towards you at the bottom of, in the centre of, and at the top of the screen - and once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of them to kill them, the game's fourth boss theme (it's exclusive to this stage) will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as Neko Hitode sticks his head out of the water (a red starfish will also drop down from the top of the screen and land on it) and speaks the Hiragana text U nya nya? (うにゃにゃ?) to Pistol Daimyo (his Waru meter, which is comprised of four Waru, will also appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen at this point) before speaking the explosive Katakana text Fugyāa! (フギャアア!). A blue shuriken will then start flying around the screen in an attempt to collide with you, while Neko Hitode sticks his forepaws out of the water; once you have fired sixty-four small cannonballs, eight medium ones or four large ones at the aforementioned red starfish, it will explode (and if either of his forepaws are still stuck out of the water, they'll also explode for 100 points apiece), as the colour of his head changes from blue to yellow and he speaks the explosive Hiragana text Domoariyato u nya ni ya! Warui hitode ga ochitā a. (ども ありやと うにゃにやっ! わるい ひとで が おちたああ) to Pistol Daimyo without a starfish. The "stage clear" theme will then be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for an eleventh time, as he swims off the right side of the screen - and Pistol Daimyo will then fly off the right side of the screen himself as the view returns to the overworld map, the second lantern on that bottom row (which represented this stage) changes its colour from yellow to red, and the fan which indicates Pistol Daimyo's current position moves forward to and unfolds over the third lantern on that bottom row, which represents the twelfth stage (where you will have to watch out for an infinite amount of Dokuro Doors materializing ahead of you).

Area 3 (Stage 12)[edit]

Once Pistol Daimyo has reappeared on the screen he will start moving forward for a twelfth time as a Rock comes bouncing down into view from the top of the screen; once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at it to kill it, you will come to a Purple Kanameishi that is hovering in place at the top of the screen and two Blue Kanameishi circling around a blue vase (one in a clockwise direction and the other in an anticlockwise direction) at the bottom of the screen. Once you've fired three large cannonballs at the Purple one to kill it and a single large one (or two medium ones) at both of the Blue ones to kill them, you will have to fire a medium cannonball at that blue vase to break it open - and once you have done so, it will leave a Hanafuda card behind. Once you have collected this, it will be displayed up in the top-right corner of the screen; seven Dokuro will then come flying towards you at the top and bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of these to kill them, you will come to another Purple Kanameishi at the top of the screen and two more Blue Kanameishi circling around a Yellow Kanameishi (the third one in a clockwise direction, and the fourth one in an anticlockwise direction) at the bottom of the screen - and once you have fired off three large cannonballs at the Purple one to kill it and a single large one (or two medium ones) at both of the Blue ones and the Yellow one, to kill them, the Yellow one will leave a second blue vase behind. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open, it will leave a Hanafuda card behind; once you have collected it, it will be displayed up in that top-right corner of the screen next to the first one. A Dokuro Door will then materialize in front of you, as an eighth Dokuro emerges from it, then comes flying towards you - and once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to kill it, four more Dokuro will come flying towards you at the top and bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of these, to kill them, you'll come up to a third blue vase, in the centre of the screen; once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open, it'll leave a Hanafuda card behind. Once you have collected it, an eleventh Kusudama will drop down into view, from the top of the screen - and once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to break it open before it goes back up off the top of the screen again, it'll leave a suit of metal (or wooden if you were unlucky enough to get hit twice) armour behind. Once you have put it on if you were unlucky enough to get hit, two more Dokuro Doors will materialize in front of Pistol Daimyo as two more Dokuro emerge from them and come flying towards him; once you've fired a medium cannonball at both of them to kill them, the first boss theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for the sixth time, as Dokuro Nosuke comes hovering into view from the right side of the screen, rises into the air, and speaks the Hiragana/Katakana text Washi ha Dokuro Nosuke to mōsu. Mairu! (わしは ドクロ のすけと もうす. まいる!) to Pistol Daimyo (as his Waru meter, which is comprised of three Waru, will also appear in that bottom-right corner of the screen at this point). He'll now start flying round the screen as a Dokuro tree emerges from his head, and he starts launching an infinite amount of his own Dokuro at you from it (which, unlike the regular ones, aren't worth any points, when you fire a medium cannonball at them to kill them) - and you will also have to watch out for additional Dokuro Doors materializing in front of you and additional regular Dokuro emerging from them and flying towards you during this fight (which you can obviously still fire a medium cannonball at to kill them for 300 extra points apiece). Once you have fired off ninety-six small cannonballs, forty-eight medium ones, or six large ones at that tree (you'll also once again have to watch out for Taimappu walking into view in the bottom-right corner of the screen and ringing his bells if you take too long over this fight), it will recede back into his head and any regular Dokuro still on the screen will explode for 300 extra points apiece, as he falls down to the ground and speaks the explosive Hiragana text Iyā o tsuyoi! Sendai mo sazo go anshin sa rete imashō. (いやー おつよい! せんだい も さぞ ごあんしん されていましょう) to Pistol Daimyo; and the "stage clear" theme will then be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for a twelfth time as he hovers away off the right side of the screen. Pistol Daimyo will then fly off the right side of the screen himself - and the view will now return to the overworld map, as the third lantern on the bottom row (which had represented this stage) changes its colour from yellow to red, and the fan which indicates Pistol Daimyo's current position moves forward to and unfolds over the fourth lantern on that bottom row, which represents the thirteenth stage. This is the last one set in Ayakashi no Maki, as the fourteenth and final stage will be set in Gonsuke-dan no Maki.

Area 4 (Stage 13)[edit]

Once Pistol Daimyo has reappeared on the screen, he will start moving forward for a thirteenth time, as two Yuurei in jars come flying towards him; once you have fired a medium cannonball at both of them to kill them (if you cannot do this in time, the jars will break open and the freed Yuurei will fly directly towards you), you'll come to three Hitodama Hassha-ho firing blue flames at you from their positions at the bottom and top of the screen. Once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at each of them to kill them, eight Hakaba will come down from the top of the screen and fly towards you once they have reached your altitude - and once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at each of these, to kill them, you will come to a fourth Hitodama Hassha-ho that is firing blue flames at you from its position at the bottom of the screen. Once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at it to kill it, three Purple Nekodori will fly towards you in the centre of the screen; once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of them to kill them, a Bacura will come tumbling towards you, at the bottom of the screen. Once you have gone around it (again, if you fire a cannonball at this, it will tumble towards you faster), you will come to two Yellow Kanameishi, that are hovering in place at the bottom and top of the screen - and once you have fired one large cannonball or two medium ones at both of them to kill them, you will come to two more Hitodama Hassha-ho that are firing blue flames at you, from their positions at the bottom and top of the screen. Once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at both of them to kill them an Enormous Hand will come up into view from the bottom of the screen; once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the bottom of the screen again, an Enormous Foot will come down into view from the top of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the top of the screen again, another Enormous Hand will come up into view from the bottom of the screen - and once you've fired a medium cannonball at it to make it retreat back off the bottom of the screen again, two more Enormous Feet come down into view from the top of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at both of these two to make them retreat back off the top of the screen again, you will come to a seventh Hitodama Hassha-ho that is firing blue flames at you from its position at the bottom of the screen; once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at it to kill it, four more Purple Nekodori will fly towards you in the centre of the screen. Once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of them to kill them, five more Hakaba will come down into view from the top of the screen then fly towards you once they've reached your altitude - and once you have fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at each of these, to kill them, you'll come to ten more Hitodama Hassha-ho that are firing blue flames at you from their positions at the top and bottom of the screen. Once you've fired two medium cannonballs or one large one at each of them to kill them, seven Chouchin Obake will come flying towards you, in the centre of the screen; once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of these to kill them, four Black Kaeru will come bouncing towards you at the bottom of the screen. Once you have fired a medium cannonball at each of them to kill them, you will come to three blue vases (and the last yellow vase in the game) at the top and bottom of the screen - and once you've fired a medium cannonball at each of these, to break them open, they will leave three Hanafuda cards and a shot powerup behind. Once you have collected them all, a twelfth Kusudama, the last in the game, will drop down from the top of the screen; once you have shot a medium cannonball at it to break it open before it goes back up off the top of the screen again, it will leave a suit of metal (or wooden, if you were unlucky enough to get hit twice), armour behind. Once you have put it on, if you were unlucky enough to get hit, the game's first boss theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for a seventh and final time as you come to Fujo Hakaba, which will speak the Hiragana/Katakana text Yokumoya rete kurete na. Fui īi n fu īī n. (よくも やっれてくれたな. ふいイイイん ふいイイイイん) to Pistol Daimyo once it has seen him, even though it is without eyes (its Waru meter, comprised of six Waru, will also appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen at this point, but if you manage to fire a large cannonball at it before it speaks, only five will show up) - and it will then start flying around in front of you, while firing blue flames at you. You will also have to watch out for an infinite amount of additional Hakaba coming down into view from the top of the screen and flying towards you during this fight (which you can still fire two medium cannonballs or one large one at to kill for 200 extra points apiece); but once you've fired off ninety-six small cannonballs, forty-eight medium cannonballs, or six large cannonballs at it, any Hakaba that are on the screen will explode for 200 extra points apiece, and it will speak the explosive Hiragana/Katakana text of Urameshi (うらめし) six times, then Urameshīī (うらめしイイイ) to Pistol Daimyo. The "stage clear" theme will then be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 for a thirteenth time, as it explodes and Pistol Daimyo flies away off the right side of the screen - and the view will return to the overworld map as that fourth lantern on the bottom row (which had represented this stage) changes colour from yellow to red, that fan which indicated Pistol Daimyo's current positions disappears and the explosive Hiragana text of To to no! Taihende gozaru! Aku no nō min soshiki Gonsuke-dan. Ikki wo okoshimashite gozaimasu! Sugu ni shirō ho he omo dori kudasare!! (とっ との! たいへんで ござる! あくの のうみんそしき ごんすけだん. いっきを おこしまして ございます! すぐに しろうほへ おもどり くだされ!!), just appears on it. The camera will now pan up to the dojo at the top of the map which represents the game's fifth world and fourteenth stage: Gonsuke-dan no Maki, which features four bosses at various points throughout it instead of just one at the end. Are you tough enough to get all the way to that point?
