If you are using MAME to play this game, you may wish to enable game cheats, and reduce the "Overclock CPU1" percentage to slow the game down in this mode to make it easier; the virtual lightguns still move with the same speed and sensitivity determined by the settings in the "Analog Controls" menu.

Stage 1 (1st block, top-left)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 1.png
SHOOT EACH METEORITE BEFORE THEY REACH THE EARTH.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 25 seconds

Welcome to Expert Mode. In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the meteorites that are falling down into view from the top of the screen; however, you should not shoot the bombs when they fly into view from the left and right sides of it, as you will lose one life at the end of the stage for every one you accidentally hit. If you manage to survive the full twenty-five seconds you will receive a bonus of 110 points for every meteorite you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 339 points (for quick shot) - however, if you're unlucky enough to miss even one of the meteorites, it will hit the earth and cause it to burn up as you automatically fail the stage (and singlehandedly doom the human race to boot).

Stage 2 (1st block, top-right)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 2.png
SHOOT 35 TARGETS OR MORE. TRY NOT TO MISS.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 15 seconds

In this stage, you shall have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the targets in front of you (without missing); if you manage to shoot over thirty-five of them in fifteen seconds (providing you do not miss), you shall receive a bonus of 150 points for every target you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 857 points (for quick shot). However, if you do not manage to shoot over thirty-five of them before missing, or running out of time, you'll fail the stage - and you should also try not to shoot the other player's targets, as you'll lose one life for every one you accidentally hit.

Stage 3 (1st block, bottom-left)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 3.png
SHOOT 48 NINJAS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 25 seconds

In this stage (which is similar to the third stage of the Training Mode!), you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the cardboard ninjas that are popping out from behind the walls (and bushes) as the camera pans to the right (and back to the left again); if you manage to shoot over forty-eight of them you shall receive a bonus of 120 points for every ninja you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 558 points (for quick shot). However, if you do not manage to shoot over forty-eight of the The Ninja Warriors lookalikes in twenty-five seconds you will fail the stage.

Stage 4 (1st block, bottom-right)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 4.png
PROTECT DR. DON AND DR. DAN FROM THE HUNGRY PIRANHAS.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 20 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the piranhas that are jumping out of the water to bite Dr. Don and/or Dr. Dan (and force them down the rope they are hanging on to); you should also not shoot the bombs when they are sprung out of the water as you will lose one life at the end of the stage for every one you accidentally hit. If you manage to survive the full twenty seconds, you shall receive 150 points for every piranha you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage) and a maximum of 790 points (for quick shot) - however, if the piranhas should force Dr. Don and/or Dr. Dan off the bottom of the rope (even though they'll climb back up it while not bitten), they'll fall into the water, and you'll automatically fail this stage.

Stage 5 (2nd block, top-left)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 5.png
SHOOT 22 TARGETS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 15 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the targets as they turn to face you; if you manage to shoot over twenty-two of them, you will receive a bonus of 240 points for every target you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 1000 points (for quick shot). However, if you do not manage to shoot over twenty-two of them (given that you can only destroy them while they are facing you!), you will fail the stage.

Stage 6 (2nd block, top-right)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 6.png
SHOOT ALL THE BALLS.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 10 seconds

In this stage, you shall have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the four large balls that are bouncing around the screen; however, a large ball breaks into two medium-sized ones when hit, and a medium-sized one breaks into two small ones when hit (much like the asteroids in Atari's Asteroids, 1979). If you manage to shoot all the small balls to make them disappear before the timer runs out you will receive a bonus of 240 points for every ball you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 3000 points (for quick shot) - however, if you miss even one, you shall fail the stage.

Stage 7 (2nd block, bottom-left)[edit]

SHOOT ALL TARGETS OF YOUR COLOR.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 10 seconds

In this stage, you'll have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at your own targets (red for 1P, blue for 2P); however, you should try not to fire at the other player's targets (as you will lose one life at the end of the stage for every one you accidentally hit). If you manage to shoot all thirty of your own targets before the timer runs out, you'll receive a bonus of 200 points for every one you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 2000 points (for quick shot) - however, if you could not manage to shoot all thirty of your own targets before the timer runs out, you shall fail the stage.

Stage 8 (2nd block, bottom-right)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 8.png
SHOOT THE VALTURES. CATCH 12 HOSTAGES IN BOAT OF YOUR COLOR.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 20 seconds

In this stage, you'll have an infinite amount of bullets, to fire at the vultures (and cause them to drop their hostages, who look a lot like Dr. Don and Dr. Dan, into the boats at the bottom of the screen), as they fly down into view from the top of the screen; if you manage to catch twelve hostages in your boat you will receive a bonus of 120 points for every vulture you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage) and a maximum of 777 points (for quick shot). However, if you do not catch twelve of them, you will fail the stage - and that misspelling of "vultures" in the stage's intro is also accurate.

Bonus Stage[edit]

GN Bonus Stage.png
WHICH BOX HAS THE "EXTRA LIFE"?
Bullets full: 1
Time limit: 10 seconds

In this stage, you will have a single bullet, to fire at one of four falling treasure chests; one contains a heart (an extra life), another contains twenty coins (10000 points), the third contains a heart and twenty gold coins, and the fourth contains nothing. Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 20 seconds

In this stage, you'll have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at your own targets (red for 1P, blue for 2P) as they pop up in the shooting gallery; however, you should not shoot the other player's targets, or bombs, when they pop up, for you shall lose one life at the end of the stage for every one of both you accidentally hit. If you manage to shoot over fifteen of your own targets, you receive: a bonus of 130 points for every target you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage) and a maximum of 824 points (for quick shot) - however, if you don't shoot over fifteen of your own targets you fail the stage.

In this stage, you will have a single bullet to fire at the UFO; if you hit it, the alien inside will fall to the ground, and you will receive a bonus of 2001 points (a reference to the 1967 film of 2001: A Space Odyssey), a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 4799 points (for quick shot). However, if you miss the UFO (or the timer runs out), you shall fail the stage - and it is also represented by a red question mark on a purple background.

Stage 12 (3rd block, bottom-right)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 12.png
SHOOT 44 BIRDS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 25 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of bullets, to fire at the birds as they emerge from the windows of the house (the clock at the top, that says 9:00, is also a window in disguise); however, you should not shoot the bombs when they emerge, as you'll lose one life at the end of the stage for every one you accidentally hit. If you manage to shoot over forty-four birds, you shall receive a bonus of 120 points for every bird you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 769 points (for quick shot) - however, if you could not shoot over forty-four birds, you shall fail this stage.

GN Expert Mode Stage 14.png
AIM FOR THE CENTER OF THE TARGET! SCORE 520 PTS. OR MORE.
Bullets full: 6
Time limit: 10 seconds

In this stage (which is similar to the first stage of the Training Mode!), you will have six bullets to fire at your own target (red for 1P, blue for 2P); the outer rings of the targets are worth 50 points, while their middle rings are worth 60 (and the small squares at the top of them are worth 90), their inner rings are worth 80 and their centres are worth 100. Once you've run out of shots (or the timer has run out) your target will be brought up to the camera - and if you scored over 520 points, you will receive a bonus of your score multiplied by 10 (for hits), and a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage). However, if you did not score over 520 points, you will fail the stage; you should also try not to fire at the other player's target, as you shall lose one life at the end of the stage for every time you accidentally hit it. The next stage also takes place in a darkened warehouse, and shall only get lit every time you fire a shot.

Stage 15 (4th block, bottom-left)[edit]

GN Expert Mode Stage 15.png
SHOOT 26 CRIMINALS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 25 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the cardboard criminals that are popping up from behind the crates in a dark warehouse, which is only lit every time you fire a shot; however, you should try not to shoot the cardboard civilians when they pop up, as you shall lose one life at the end of the stage for every one you accidentally hit. If you manage to shoot over twenty-six of them, you shall receive a bonus of 190 points for every one you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage) and a maximum of 358 points (for quick shot) - however, if you do not do it, you will fail the stage.

Last Stage (castle)[edit]

GN Last Stage.png
SHOOT THE TARGETS AND WATCH THE FIREWORKS.
Bullets full: Unlimited
Time limit: 5 seconds

In this stage you will have an infinite amount of bullets to fire at the targets on the twenty-one cannons and light their fuses; once the timer has run out, eight red- and blue-uniformed soldiers will run into view from the left and right sides of the screen, and blow their trumpets as the camera pans upward and the cannons whose targets you shot launch fireworks into the air. All twenty-one cannons (including the ones you missed) will then launch sixteen more fireworks into the air, which will explode into the text "CONGRATULATIONS" at the top of the screen as your stage score is calculated (hit: 510). The text of "EXPERT COMPLETE!" will then appear up at the top of the screen and you'll receive 10000 points for every life you have remaining - and the highlighter shall run down five more phrases a few times before slowing down and stopping on one (again, based on how many stages you failed):

TRY SELECTING VERY HARD. (0 fails)
INSPECTOR. (1-4 fails)
DETECTIVE. (5-8 fails)
TRY AGAIN! (9-12 fails)
BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME! (13-16 fails)

The text "GOOD SHOOTING! CAN YOU COMPLETE THE VERY HARD GAME?" will now appear at the bottom of the screen and the credits will start:

Once you have done so, the curtain with the text "GAME OVER" on it shall come down from the top of the screen, and the game shall go back into attract mode.
