Stage 1 (top-left)[edit]

GN Training Mode Stage 1.png
AIM FOR THE CENTER OF THE TARGET! SCORE 400 PTS. OR MORE.
Bullets full: 6
Time limit: 20 seconds

Welcome to Training Mode. In this stage, you will have six shots to fire at your own coloured target (red for 1P, blue for 2P); the outer rings of the targets are worth 50 points, while their middle rings are worth 60 (and the small squares at the top of them are worth 90), their inner rings are worth 80 and their centres are worth 100. Once you have run out of shots or the timer has run out your target will be brought up to the camera - and if you had scored over 400 points, the text "QUOTA COMPLETE. XX0 points." (XX0 being the number of points you scored!) will appear on your side of the screen (left for 1P, right for 2P). You will then receive a bonus of your score multiplied by 10 (for hits) and a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage); however, you will not receive a bonus for quick shot times on this stage. Your stage score will then be calculated and the text "NEW RECORD HIGH SCORE" will appear below it if it has usurped the previous one - and the game shall now return to the mode's stage selection screen (and this stage will have a red flag on it to indicate that it has been completed). However, if you did not score over 400 points, the text "FAILED. 1 LIFE LOST." shall appear on your side of the screen; also, in a two-player game, you can lose additional lives, if you accidentally hit the other player's target (which will be shown to the left and right sides of the text "MISS" at the bottom of the screen), and on returning to the stage selection screen, this stage will have a white flag with a red "X" on it.

Stage 2 (top-right)[edit]

SHOOT THE TANK TO PROTECT DR. DON AND DR. DAN.
Bullets full: Infinite
Time limit: 20 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of shots to fire at the tanks, that are driving over the sand dunes towards Dr. Don and Dr. Dan (this game's mascot characters) as they march back and forth; if you manage to survive the full twenty seconds, you will receive a bonus of 130 points for every tank you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 613 points (for quick shot). However, if a tank manages to drive over Dr. Don (and/or Dr. Dan), both players will automatically fail the stage - and this also goes for all subsequent stages in the later modes featuring the two doctors.

Stage 3 (bottom-left)[edit]

GN Training Mode Stage 3.png
SHOOT 28 NINJAS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Infinite
Time limit: 25 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of shots to fire at the cardboard ninjas which are popping out from behind walls and bushes as the screen scrolls to the right (and back to the left again!); if you manage to shoot over twenty-eight of them in twenty-five seconds, you will receive a bonus of 120 points for every cardboard ninja you'd hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage) and a maximum of 558 points (for quick shot). However, if you did not shoot over twenty-eight of them you will fail the stage - and the ninjas also look similar to those of Taito Corporation's The Ninja Warriors (1987).

Stage 4 (bottom-right)[edit]

GN Training Mode Stage 4.png
SHOOT 15 TARGETS OR MORE.
Bullets full: Infinite
Time limit: 20 seconds

In this stage, you will have an infinite amount of shots to fire at the targets that are popping up on the ramparts of the multicoloured Taj Mahal; however, you should not shoot the bombs when they pop up, as you will lose one life at the end of the stage for every bomb you accidentally hit. If you manage to shoot over fifteen targets in twenty seconds, you'll receive a bonus of 200 points for every target you hit, a maximum of 2000 points (for hit percentage), and a maximum of 837 points (for quick shot) - however, if you did not shoot over fifteen targets, you shall fail the stage. Once you have finished all four stages (regardless of whether you cleared or failed them), the text "TRAINING COMPLETE!" will appear at the top of the screen; you will then receive a bonus of 10000 points for every life you have remaining and a highlighter shall run down five phrases a few times before slowing down and stopping on one (based on how many stages you failed, like how bonuses in the Challenging Stages of Cosmo Gang: The Video were based on your performance):

TRY THE EXPERT GAME. (0 fails)
TRY THE BEGINNER GAME. (1 fail)
AVERAGE. (2 fails)
YOU CAN DO BETTER! (3 fails)
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! (4 fails)

The text "PRACTICE GAME COMPLETE!" will then appear at the bottom of the screen, and a curtain with the text "GAME OVER" on it will come down from the top of it; even if your final scores were over 5000 (which is the game's lowest preset high score), the game will not go into high-score mode as this mode is only four stages long. Therefore, in order to enter your initials, you'll have to graduate to Beginner Mode, Expert Mode or Very Hard Mode.
