Create your user[edit]
When you start the game, you will need to set up your user. The first thing to do is to choose your Pokémon. The available options are Eevee, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu.
Then you enter your birthday, though you can enter "No Response". However, playing on your birthday will allow you to unlock a cap.
Next you choose your gender: Boy, Girl, Not Listed, or No Response.
Get Brushing![edit]
Brush as well as you can before the timer counts down to 0. Brushing left-and-right will progress quickly, but any movement around the mouth will help clean the Pokémon.
If you brush well, and the Pokémon is fully clean when time runs out, you'll get to use a Master Ball, which is guaranteed to catch the Pokémon. If the Pokémon is slightly dirty still, you will only get to use a Pokéball, which has a chance of the Pokémon escaping. The Pokéball you use can be upgraded as you unlock Awards. If the Pokémon is still fully dirty, the Pokémon may flee without giving the chance to catch it.
The Pokémon to catch each time you brush will be randomly selected, with the following restrictions:
- Evolved forms will only appear after you've caught the base form.
- Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will only appear once you've caught 120 other Pokémon found in the Kanto region.
- Mewtwo will only appear once you've caught the three Legendary birds.
- Mew will only appear once you've caught all the other Pokémon found in the Kanto region.
- Raikou, Entei, and Suicune will only appear once you've caught 80 other Pokémon found in the Johto region.
- Lugia and Ho-Oh will only appear once you've caught the three Legendary beasts.
- Celebi will only appear once you've caught all the other Pokémon found in the Johto region
As you catch more Pokémon, you'll also unlock new Caps.
Once you've caught all the Pokémon, including Mew, you'll be able to take snapshots from the cap screen, and decorate them immediately.
