Route 1[edit]

You go back to your mother's house. Soon, Kukui will come saying that it's time to go to the festival. He also says that he has something to show you.

Leading you out onto Route 1, he shows you how to catch Pokemon, and gives you some Poke Balls and Potions. You can now catch some Pokemon to expand your team.

  • Caterpie (Lv. 3-5)
  • Metapod (Lv. 3-5)
  • Rattata (Lv. 3-5, night only)
  • Yungoos (Lv. 3-5, day only)
  • Pikipek (Lv. 3-5)
  • Ledyba (Lv. 3-5, day only)
  • Spinarak (Lv. 3-5, night only)
  • Pichu (Lv. 3-5)

#731 Pikipek This is the regional bird of Alola. It's quite unassuming, at least compared to Fletchling of the previous generation, and its evolutions (first Trumbeak, then Toucannon) stay Normal/Flying. Considering that there are eventually better Flying-types available, like Oricorio, Skarmory and the Fletchling line itself, it's worth using Pikipek for a while, but not for the whole game.

#734 Yungoos Just as Pikipek is the regional bird Pokemon, Alola also has a regional rodent, and this is it. It's not much. Really. It learns the typical rodent moves, like Bite, and its stats aren't so good either. If you really want a rodent Pokemon, Alola Form Rattata is slightly better. The one unique attribute of Yungoos is its signature ability, Stakeout, which doubles the damage to Pokemon which switch in in the middle of the fight. It evolves into Gumshoos, which is basically just a larger Yungoos, and isn't much better on the field.

#19 Rattata This classic Pokemon is back, with a regional form exclusive to Alola. It changes its type from pure Normal to Normal/Dark and can have the ability Gluttony. It gets STAB on its Dark-type moves, but sadly, also is 4x weak to Fighting attacks.

In Sun and Moon, wild battles have changed. Wild Pokemon can now call allies to the field, and Horde battles were removed.

Route 1 also has some trainers:

  • Youngster Jimmy
    • Rattata (Lv. 3)
    • Pokebuck.png 60
  • Lass Audrey
    • Caterpie (Lv. 3)
    • Pokebuck.png 72
  • Preschooler Oliver
    • Yungoos (Lv. 4)
    • Pokebuck.png 48

That's basically everything for now. Onward (north) to Iki Town!
