Route 9 is a rough mountain path forged by retired Rhyhorn racers, and terrain is still too rugged for trainers to walk through. Instead, most people ride the trusty Rhyhorn on the route to get to and from Glittering Cave. Watch out for Pokemon that may pop out from within the spikes!

Rhyhorn riding[edit]

Most of this route is inaccessible unless you ride a Rhyhorn across. Simply approach the Rhyhorn resting on the route and it will let you mount it. Rhyhorn controls differently than just walking; you move forward and backward using Up dpad and Down dpad, while Left dpad and Right dpad changes the direction Rhyhorn is facing. Press A button to smash any boulders in your path, and press B button where there is flat land to dismount.

Through the Spikes Passage[edit]

Advance forward along the route until you come across two boulders. Break either of them, then go left to reach a patch of normal land. Break the boulder on the patch and dismount Rhyhorn. Climb up the stairs on to the ledge to get an X Defense. As you proceed onward, you'll encounter a branch in the path. Go down the right branch and break the boulder there, then climb up the stairs to reach a Paralyze Heal. Head down the alley to the right of the stairs to reach a Fire Stone. Now take the left path and destroy the trio of boulders to reach the entrance to Glittering Cave. Check the rock beside the sign near the cave entrance for a Super Repel.

You can also continue riding the Rhyhorn down the path to the right. Smash the rock at the end of this path and head up the stairs. There is a Dusk Ball in a corner here, as well as a ramp that leads to a Sky Trainer.
